98 gst starts 1st time, Turn off and try to start wont run for more then 2 Sec

Ok- Sorry for the long post. Months ago i downshifted in to a gear i shouldnt have. Tranny goes boom and days later i take to the best DSM shop in Kansas. Tranny goes in for a rebuild from tre. I added a lsd, FMIC, Flash forward to today, I got a call from the shop, and was told that the car wouldnt start. He asked about any car alarms that might be doing this. Told him the car never had one. He said he would call back. He switched out the ecu with a know good one. Car starts. When it gets shut off and restarted it stays on for 2 seconds then dies. The shop said it checked all relays, all wiring, and is stumped. So he refers me to a Electrical car shop. And it cant get looked at till wed. Has this happend to anyone before? The electrical shop said it might still be the ecu because each ecu should be reflashed to each individual car. ( which i never heard of) This sucks... i havent driven my car since febuary! Well, i have no choice to wait... longer. But ias hoping to hear from fellow dsm'rs to see if anybody has had this problem before!

I had a 1g that did the same thing and it was a faulty main relay that kept the fuel pump from staying on. I don't know how the fuel pump circuit works on a 2g but it might be something to look into. Are you getting a CEL?

Might check the CAS. When mine started flaking out, it didn't throw a code until the CAS started working again (the CAS was failing only occasionally). When the CAS was failing, the car would start (maybe) but you couldn't rev it and it would stall within a couple of seconds. Also, there was a lot of fuel in the exhaust. Worth a try. takes about a minute to swap out on a 2gb.

Dont know about the CEL ( i was told by the shop owner what was going on) From searching i see CAS is quite a common headache for dsm'rs. I would assume that the shop had checked that. I will keep everyone up to date as to what the 2nd shop says the problem is.

Take a look at the following link.

http://members.shaw.ca/dsm.1000q/Eng...mer/2G/cas.htm

The silver part is the CAS support. The CAS plugs into the left side of it - it's the black plastic thing with the plug coming out of it. The sensor is held in with one 10mm bolt. Unplug, unbolt, pull the old one, oil up the o-ring on the new one, pop it in, bolt on, plug in.

If the shop has a spare CAS, they could plug in the other CAS and see if the car starts and throws P0340 like TALONTRAX said. That's the CAS error code. If you know anyone else with a 2gb, you could use theirs. Honestly, it takes under a minute to replace if you rush, 5 minutes if you sip beer in between every step.
