looking at a 1991 talon need help

ok well im new to these cars but what i was wondering is how they are to work and what are some things i can expect to happen to the car if i do buy it? also are all 1991 talons turbo or just the tsi's ?

Its a learning process...in the beginning you will want to rip your hairs out ### you don't won't know how to work on them, but little by little, everything gets very easy.



and what are some things i can expect to happen to the car if i do buy it?

The same thing that can happen to any other car you buy...it all depends on how you treat the car.
 
ok thanx i was just trying to see what to look in to like problem wise or anything like that?
working on them i was mainly getting at if the engine is an easy thing to work on?
but ya i know about working on cars i have a 1992 nissan 240sx with a sr20det engine and other mods so working on cars isnt to much of a big deal to me i just mainly don't wanna be surprised by anything when working on the car if u do get it.
 
just remember dsm turning everyday men into mechanics since 1989.

These cars require lots of work and attention but if you maintain it. it'll be fun as hell to rip on. You know what just think of it as getting involved in a long term relationship. Because believe me you will go broke.
 
I've been a new Talon Turbo owner since 2005 (was always into camaros/firebirds). I never knew about mechanics at all until I got my Talon and then learned a hell of a lot of information through problems mechanically. Almost $11000 later (just into the engine...initial parts, 1st build, 2nd rebuild, to current mods...my car (only recently) is finally starting to become dependable as a daily driver and I smoke camaros and firebirds too! $11G's I think was worth it afterall.
 
If you're used to working on an old muscle car or truck with room to sit above the valve covers while running the rockers...well... it'll be different. :D

It's not bad, except for:

1. Anything under the dash. I'll pay almost anything if someone will come screw around with my clutch adjustment or run wiring the next time I need to do it. Of course I'm old and sore.

2. Most stuff on the timing belt side.. specifically the water pump pulley. They could have made this area a bit tighter if they tried, but just a little. (My car will probably start leaning to the left soon, due to the amount of biological material I've added from my hands and arms).

3. Stabbing a tranny from the bottom. The subframe is a biatch, until you do it a few times (I'm only on my 3rd time, so still learning). Even then it will decide to be stubborn when you think you've figured out the correct angle and a way to attack it. Pulling the tranny isn't really "hard", but it's a pita with all the stuff you have to remove to get at it... mainly it's just a matter of getting motivated enough to do it :)

And it's all worth it... ;)
