I've got a couple questions, I got a 90 awd talon with no mods really.. Its strictly a track car. thats it.. nothing else.. never will it see a single road EVER.. So with that being said, I'm about to remove the motor and start building it and while doing so also remove the 3 bolt and put the 4 in while the machine work on the motor is being done.. I have two questions..
First, I am starting with the head first.. My plan is to build the bottom end to handle 600hp.. Eagle H's and all the goodies.. See if you can follow me here, (im not the best at explaining stuff) I know that I want a 600hp motor one day, I'm gonna build the bottom end to handle that however knowing full well I am not going to hit the ground running at 600.. So my plan is to start off with the EVO III 16G and max it out and grow from there.. So the idea is that I'd only have to pull the head to upgrade it to breather better.. and not have to pull the ENTIRE motor when I do get that big turbo and big HP.. SOOOOooooooo, my question to you all is - What all should I do to the head or should I do anything at all.. can I run a pair of the BC 272/272 with the springs and stick with the stock valves and guides and all that or is that stupid or what? I'm still learning but I know a little about alot, not alot about everything.. so any help is greatly appreciated..
Question 2: While at a junkyard, if it has not been already raped- is there a quick way I can tell that the vehicle has a 4 bolt without having to remove anything? I know what the differences are but is there something other than taking wheels off and getting up under there to find out? Maybe something in the VIN or something???? I appreciate any and all help and apologize for the long thread.. Thanks.:talon:

About finding a 4 bolt just find out if its 93 and up(no pop up headlights is the easiest way to tell) all those years had 4bolt rear ends, I think the 92's also had 4bolts as well but Im not sure(actually Im pretty sure they did) as for the best track motor a 2.3 with a 50trim would be best(bb50trim preferrably) great power early spool!!!

for the head, don't go with 272's there are for high rpm on a 2L, 264's would probobly be better, stick with the stock intake mani(long runners, more low end) and if you are willing throw on a 2g head(smaller ports, more low end.) porting out your head will lessen your low end torque(and spool later too)

as far as springs, its been mentioned before that any cam that isn't stock will benefit from upgraded springs, less valve bounce, better valve control yada yada yada.

edit" all of the above was assuming track meant autox, circuit racing, if your talking about drag racing then port your 1g head, SMIM, 272's(possible 280's depending)

Yup strictly drag.. nothing else.. straight line speed.. thanks for the advice..
