what is the difference between the block of an awd and a fwd 7 bolt? i am rebuilding my gst and think i bought a short block for an awd because the blocks have some size differences where the tranny bolts up. everything will bolt up but the clutch/flywheel/p.p will be exposed on the new block as oppsed to the old block where there was casting there. i guess what i am asking is did i buy a awd short block or are the two identical?

The 7-bolt 4G63 block is the same no matter if it's AWD or FWD. Sounds like you might have purchased a block that was busted on the tranny side.

There is a difference between the AWD and FWD as far as the clutch/flywheel goes.

The 95-96 had the CAS behind the timing belt, the 97-99 had the CAS on the end of the intake cam/passenger side.

apparently i have purchased a 1g 7 bolt. came in the 93-94 cars. the casting on the block is missing a section where the tranny would bolt to it. it is not cracked at all it is brand new from mitsubishi. has anyone used this motor on their 2g and had any problems? also the pistons on the new motor have much more of a dish than the old pistons. will that create more problems than lowering the compression? also you have to tap the block for a coolant line, has anyone had problems with this? aka overheating?
