just called a shop to have my motor put in because i have no room or time to finish it. putting a 6bolt into a 2g gst. they told me i would need dsmlink and a tune or else it would misfire. this true or are they just trying to sell me it.

NO, you don't NEED dsmlink to run a 6 bolt in a 2g but Dsm link is by far the best tuning device for dsm's, so if you have the money for it and you know your gonna be modding your car, I would reccomend it. It isnt required for a 6 bolt swap tho.

yea it is good and i plan on getting it but they were trying to tell me ~$1600 for dsmlink and a tune. so i think i can wait on that

true that is but it is very nice to do if u are lazy and have 725 to spend on it hey DO YOU KID... GOOD LUCK IM FINISHING MINE UP THIS WEEK HOPEFULLY.....

you might (i did) get a very annoying missfire while cruising because of a 1g CAS. DSM loink allows you to invert the signal (which cures the misfire problem). Have them install you engine, then get it back at your house, buy dsm link for 550, and tune it yourself. DSM link comes with a useful thread

yea, 1600 sounds a little steep for dsm link and a tune. You have a 95 ecu im assuming, so your chances of having an EPROM are the best for any dsm. Thats half the battle right there, get that son of a gun socketed and then throw ## $550 dollar chip in there, hook it up to a laptop and ## golden. Your 1100 dollars ahead of the game right there.

there are alot of dsmer's using keydriver. I don't know exactly how user friendly it is, or it overall performance. I know DSMLINK has a great support forum and it easy to use. The newer version is coming too!

I am also getting a chip for my 6bolt swap. I get the annoying misfire codes very often, and the chip will disable the code and make everything run smoother.

It is so user-friendly you just put it in and drive. Really. I have one and I'm on my second tune ($20.00 for a re-tune, in case you change your setup). No other tuning devices either.

FWIW, its Keydiver, not driver. I couldn't find the website with the >R< in there! OMG LOL

sorry for the error in the spelling. So it is a flash based on the mods you have?? I like that i am able to bust out the lap top and see whats going on at all times, dsm link is like an onboard diagnosis. The keydiver is good for a ballpark range based on your mods, however you cannot fine tune and really dial it in based on air density...etc. If you have simple mods and want to do a 6bolt swap and don't want a misfire, go with keydiver i guess. But as soon as you want a setting changed its 20 bucks. After a few upgrades you couold have gotten dsmlink and tuned it yourself.

I might be wrong. I am not familair with keydiver, but i am under the impression that it is an ecu flash based on your mods.

Stock---->Keydiver----->DSMLINK-------> (if you really know what your doing and have a race car) AEM

i couldnt see spending over 800 bucks for dsmlink, install, and tune, especially if the tune is just a basic crappy street tune. 550 for dsmlink and socketing.......install? inserting an ecu into a slot? how much should that cost? 50 bucks? and the tune.....well if its a good professional tune and its on a dyno or something, then i could see a few hundred dollars, but other than that, maybe 200 bucks?

i have the cas conversion harness for the 6bolt in a 2g. would that fix the problem or its needed for something else?

the missfire may or may not appear. theres a fix thats cheap called the barometer mod, i did that, but it leans your car out a little more, so keep that in mind, if you have an afc you might need to add some fuel. but basically you put a 10k potentiometer (radioshack has em) on the barometer wire to the ecu and turn it, and reset the ecu, turn it more, reset the ecu, turn it more until it goes away. i would just get it running first and see if it even does the missifire.

I run the keydiver chip. My car has never ran smoother and I have 750's in. You can get a really good fine tune if you have a safc lying around. WHich I do.
