Ok. I had a blown turbo. I had it replaced with a big 16g. When turbo was bad, I could not start my car until i took off the upper intercooledr pipe. I then replaced the spark plugs. It would spit and sputter then I floored it and it took off. It was just smoking badly from the blown turbo. Now, new turbo, swapped ecu from a running car to verify ecu was ok. Did the same with mass air. Still no start. I am getting fuel, spark and have great compression! I have alot of money into it so far, and I really don't want to pay these guys $75 dollars an hour to try and figure it out. Any ideas anyone?? I have read other threads with starting issues. They have said that if you have spark, fuel and compression, then it has to be a cam angle sensor? Is this true or any other ideas? Oh, by the way, timing is ok.

I stopped by the repair facility where my car was at. I started it once again by removing the upper intercooler pipe. It was still blowing smoke from the residual oil left from blowing the turbo. I am having it towed to my house to drain the intercooler of oil. Could my mass air be plugged with oil also? Cylinder pressure test were great-- a 5 psi spread from lowest to highest. Checked timing, that was also right on. Is there any other sensors that could be bad or were covered in oil? Im going to try some mass air cleaner.

I would start from the turbo to the intake mani removing the pipes and IC. You never know...you just might find that rag that's been missing for a couple of days.

But seriously, if you have to take the upper pipe off to get it to "fire-up", somethings blocking the air going into the engine...a$$load of oil in the IC maybe. I know when I took off the lower IC pipe on mine after a blown turbo I made the mistake of being under the lower IC connection....took an "oil bath" that day.

The CAS is the beginning of the signals that control fuel and spark.

i agree with FORMONTOYA theres got to be somthing blocking air flow somewhere, thats what it sounds like to me as well

Awesome! Thank you both. I will definitely check that in the morning. That was my thought also. But the yahoos that put my turbo on said my car should not start without the ic pipes on. Due to the fact that there was unmetered air going into the engine. My car was still smoking from the excess oil. Also gave the owner's BMW M3 a spray of oil from upper ic pipe. Whoops! Ha, it will be alright. Thanks again everyone and this sight rocks.

Okay, cool. Another problem I have had with my car is that it stalls after letting off the throttle from cruising. When I get it started, it idles at like 500 rpm. I push down on the throttle, and it does nothing. Then it will take off and be fine. It only does it when it is warmed up. Hard to start right after it stalls.

Before you start trying to fix other issues, you need to clean out your intake of that oil. Fix one thing and then see what improves and what doesn't. Like FORMONTOYA, when my turbo died, my IC had almost 2 quarts of oil in it. It sucked that oil all the way into the motor, so everything in your intake is currently coated in oil.

At a minimum, you need to clean out the LICP, IC (with soap or gasoline), UICP, and BOV (can leave it bolted to the UICP). Maybe pull the plugs and make sure they look okay.

The stock MAS is upwind of any source of blown-turbo-oil. 1g guys feel free to correct me, but I'm still pretty sure. If you upgraded to a blow-through setup, then your MAS is going to need cleaning, too.

After doing all of that, do a boost leak test to make sure you're not leaking badly anywhere. Then see what your situation is.

Good luck!

Okay. Had to have my car towed home this morning. I took off the upper and lower ic pipe. The intercooler and blow off valve. Cleaned everything up, and fixed a few boost leaks in intercooler. Reassembled everything, checked and double checked all bolts and hose clamps. Turned over twice and fired right up. Ok, cool! Idled for about 10 minutes, smoke dissipating from exhaust(oil blown thru exhaust after turbo puked). Then it just died. Tried starting it up again. Turns over, can smell raw gas. But still wont start. My boost gauge stays and doesn't move at all. I took off upper intercooler pipe again. Turns over and fires up. It runs like crap and i can smell raw, unburnt fuel out of the exhaust. It wont rev to over 3500 rpm and will die if I take my foot off the throttle. I hook up the ic pipe and it sputters a few times and just cranks. Any other suggestions anyone? Your help is greatly appreciated.

I loosened up the crank angle sensor and moved it one way, still no start. The other way it spat and sputtered and almost started, but I could not move the sensor anymore. Any ideas?

okay. I unhooked the idle speed control and it started right up. Could mine have been bad from all of the oil on it from the blown turbo? or just coincidence? I hooked it back up after letting it idle for 20 minutes and it is actually idling.

It wont fire back up after it is warmed up. If it is cold, it will fire right up. But after it is started and ran for abit, then shut off. It wont fire up at all. any ideas
