Alright when I bought my car. The guy gave me a 3 inch downpipe that hasnt been put on the car yet. Now I wanna put it on but from what I'm reading I don't think I'll be able to yet but I wanna clarify it. My car as far as power goes and mods is completely stock but i wanna put on the dp. Is it possible and how much work would it be and would the fitment be correct?

Depending on the brand, the flanges will or will not match up to the stock flanges on your o2 housing and stock catalytic converter.

If all else fails, you can have a shop weld on new flanges that match for really cheap.

Free if you're friends with them.

so it will fit if the flanges fit and will have no problem cause i dont wanna get it on and run into problems later on.

not sure on that but i just need an answer.

Rather rude and smart ass reply ot an honest question, ever wonder maybe he had a reason and knows what he is talking about, food for thought....:notgood:

As far as bolting it, just do it and find out for yourself then.

Only issues I see is if you have a stock exhaust which I fairly sure you do and it is definantly not 3in, so if you think outside the box you will see 3in DP will not fit 2.25/2.5 unless it is reduced and that would defeat the purpose

You want to put an aftermarket 3" downpipe on a stock car with a stock cat-back exhaust - WHY? If it is 3" all the way, it is most probably a Megan racing downpipe, which won't bolt to your stock cat-back.

If the flanges match, yes it will fit. If it a cat-eliminator downpipe, it will make the CEL light come on, not a big deal if you can live with it or if you don't want to see it you can make a o2 sensor simulator (check the Tech guides on info to make these).

I suggest posting some pics up of the downpipe so we can identify who makes it, buying a cat-back exhaust system first and then installing both the cat-back and the downpipe together for maximum gains.

If it's the MR pipe, then it will be a cat-eliminating pipe. If the OP has emissions where he lives, then that's an automatic fail. Then there's the pesky CEL you mentioned.

Also, if it's the MR pipe and it's the first version, then the rear flange won't fit no matter what. And I highly doubt that the rear flange would bolt up to the stock cat-back flange anyway.

This is one of those cases where either we need to know the exact brand and style of downpipe, or you just have to get under the car and attempt bolting it up and let us know how it goes.

what you should do is spend some time to understand the car and goals for the car. from there you can begin modifying it step by step. its as if i had a super awsome turbogod T66 turbo, thats rated at 1000hp and installing that on a stock car expecting everything form it as well. you need to be realistic and understand how each mod changes the performance of the car. Im not trying to be a dick but be realistic here. check this link out.
http://www.roadraceengineering.com/2gupgradepath.htm good luck :thumb: notice all the mods prior to a larger downpipe.

You're not on the right road to making DSM friends in this particular thread...

I will tell you this. First, if you're good about it, you can drive a turbo car with an open down pipe to an exhaust shop and get it hooked up to your factory system or a full 3" system or whatever. It's loud, but if you stay out of the revs, you'll be much less loud than fart cannon'd Hondas.

Second, the bolts are supremely rusty. If you're planning on doing this yourself, hit 'em up with some PB blaster before hand.

Third, if you take a picture (or take measurements) we can probably tell you if it's going to make your car illegal or bolt right up to your current exhaust.

Fourth, nobody can assure you there will be no problems. You might run into boost creep, but I think it's less likely on your turbo than the others. If it's used, there could be leaks. We can only know as much about your system as you can tell us.

Just thought I should point something out so this newbie doesn't get confused. I'll quote one of our five-star generals.

You can’t easily bolt up a 3” pipe to DSM 02 housing, so most GOOD pipes neck down to the 2.5” at the O2 housing. Believe me, you do not want a true 3” downpipe!!!

Frankly, 2.5” is fine for most people. Unless you want to run some 10’s

Somewhat regarding your fitment question - click here.

First suggestion from me, not knowing the brand and what not would be to first make sure its for your car. Meaning its for a gst not a gsx and vice versa. Second most common brand aftermarket down pipes bolt right up to the stock O2 housing i run a megan 3inch down pipe and it bolts right up. Like everyone else has said the catback is where you will run in to your problems. You can fix this by one buying a catback system. This would be the best route to take or you could buy or make a test pipe that goes from 3inch and reduces to stock exhaust measurements. You would still have to address the issue with the 02 sensor and if you have emmissions where you live.
