Yesterday i am driving to a friends when i look down and see the water temp at a catastrophic level. Well into the red! At this same moment the rubber line between the alternator and o2 housing blows sky high. Now i know that the head is warped from this, but what other damage should i expect to repair? The head gasket needed to be replaced before cause it smoked white a little, but i never realized how much coolant it burned. Now it burns off coolant in a matter of miles. How bad should i expect the damage to be? also this is on my 97 tsi awd. please help

Check the surface of the head and the block for warpage. If you pull them, use a real straight edge and place it on top of the block or head across and diagonally then measure with a feeler gauge. If you are reading the feeler gauge numbers jumping up and down from here to there then you have a warped head or block. Hopefully not. Good Luck!

I was under the impression that iron didnt warp like aluminum does, but i dont really know for sure. Guess that is why i am asking. THanks for the input, i will def get the head resurfaced at least. I know i gotta do something since my 1g just decided to stop starting as well even though the battery, starter, and alternator all test fine.
