How to search for trans using it ID number

Trust me I tried the search button but I got nothing for anything to do with searching for a transmission based on its Identification Number.

Basically I bought a m/t trans that I found out after the fact does not have the correct final drive gear ratio. I called the company to complain and I told them it was wrong but they will not believe me, how do I verify what ratio a tranny has? Is there a web site, or do I call mitsu or what?

Plus what are the ratios for a 1G awd so I can tell them the difference and by how much they are.

As near as I can tell, the wqnk box came in JDM/export market Galant vr4 RS and Evo 0 models.

I have conflicting information on the final drive ratio's (primary/secondary internal ratio)as well as the correct matching rear diff ratio. One of my gear charts was from an Austrailian mitsubishi site, and suggests this tranny had a 3.909 rear diff, and yet the vfaq chart lists this unit as having a 3.545 rear end, and being dsm compatable....

There is a lot of misinformation out there about the JDM/Evo 0/RS gear boxes floating around the Intraweb, regarding lsd front diffs, steel shifter forks, and gear ratio's.

I have never seen one apart, so I cannot offer any definative information. I would love to see the vfaq page updated, or a new site started for transmission codes.

There's a lot of misinformation floating around the intraweb about these type of JDM "mystery" trannies. They were never directly imported into the U.S., but more and more of them have been showing up from JDM front cuts.

I have seen people making all kinds of claims about front lsd's, steel shifter forks, and the like for some of the export transmission codes. I've come to realise that the only way to know what you have is to split the case open and count teeth, and inspect the internals for the actual options installed. Many of these transmissions were blown up, rebuilt, blown up, and rebuilt again, so the code number on the case may or may not acurately reflect what's inside.

Kind of like a box of chocolates, or an "e-prom" ecu.... , you just don't know what you got 'till you split the case.

My best advice for anyone considering one of these "mystery" boxes is to get the t-case and rear diff from the same vehicle to insure compatability. I would also say having several friends give you a hand push of several hundred feet to check for binding/diff ratio incompatability would be a good choice, before firing up the car and boosting away. If they don't match, bad things happen very quickly.
