Ok i was on dsmtalk.com but its retarded and ive been there over a week and still cant post, pm, or search. So i have been reading quit a bit on different things. Anyways i am looking to buy a 2nd gen gsx or tsi. Well since most of them seem to have high miles i would like to put in a new motor but i dont see why i would do that when im going to replace the turbo and all of that stuff later on. So im looking at getting one and rebuilding the motor, but my question is on the tranny. I know AWD cars have weak trannys but how are these trannys as far as reliable? I would also like to get my tranny rebuilt by shep or somebody else or even buying a new built tranny. But im not sure. I would like to shoot for 350-400 whp or run 12's whichever comes first. It will be my daily driver. But i also hear the faster these cars are the more they break. Just looking for some input.

$$$

GSX or TSI
Rebuilt forged engine (to handle 350-400 hp)
Shep or TRE tranny
12s and a DD

You can do it all, it just takes money. You push any car to its limit and its going to break.

From personal experience of just throwing a bunch of money at it in the beginning, I would go step by step and spend the money slowly. That way I would feel rich and not broke - with a stripped DSM and a tons of parts strewn all over a garage.

LOL that is true. Im not going to really build it up right away. I would like to just get the rebuild and tranny done before I go and make it faster. So i can just learn to drive it and see the limits.

I will agree. Any car, no matter what make it is, will break eventually after being modded. The more you mod, the more likely it will break. Start off slow and work your way up as I can't tell you how many "deals" I've run across because someones eyes were bigger than their wallet or ability to get the job done.

A 12 second DD is not all that hard to accomplish, but the first rule when modding a car, any car...."the first modification you should do is purchase a reliable DD for when you break the toy" as you WILL break it eventually.

Well we have an extra truck i can drive. I dont want to go crazy on the mods. But id like to do a little autocross also. Basically a quick and reliable dd.
