I've got a small braided wire that is plugged into the backside of the turbo it seems on my 2g. There's a hole cut-out in the heat shield for the wire to loom out and clip onto the heat shield and head off back towards the other side of the turbo.. At the end of it is a white plug that has a + and - sign on it with 2 probes. I've searched and searched the engine bay for a adapter but come up with nothing so it just kinda hangs there. Does it read temp. from the exhaust or?

Thanks in Advance.

It's got a boost gauge, not even plugged into the vacuum system. I bought the car from a used dealership. having major issues with the vehicle thusfar. Crash course of learning a turbo model DSM at it's best. But, i noticed 2 screws at the driver side pillar where a gauge pod would go so i'm assuming the previous owner had it setup and pulled what he wanted out and left a mess. I was previously going on the fact it was just a probe for temp. til i seen the + and - on the tip. It's got clips routed on the heat shield for it so i'm pretty sure it's stock. Car is running like crap again after a full clutch job, MAF and leak test among many other things. Noticed the timing was off by about 3.5 / 4 teeth earlier. *joy* But, if you guys feel comfortable with saying it just hangs there *shrug* it's been doing that so far. Just want to make sure it's serving it's proper purpose. Thanks!

Those clips are on the the heat shield for the front O2 sensor, which is mounted in the O2 sensor housing (bolted between turbine housing & downpipe) & the wire should run up to the heat shield & across to the passenger side of the engine block when it connectes to the wiring harness. The O2 wire/plug doesn't sound like what you described above. A pic would help but it still sounds like an EGT probe to me.

If you look in my gallery at the engine bay shot you should be able to see the wire running across the top of the mani heat shield. You can follow it & see where it runs to on both ends & sorta see where the O2 sensor is located in the pic. This is the factory setup of the O2 wire but it sounds like your clips are now holding something else.

ugh, makes me want to just pull the motor out of the thing and rebuild it. Pic coming tonight. thanks a ton for the clarification.
