Intercooler question

Hey guys new to dsm's and this forum, this will be my first post! I recently got a 1995 Eagle Talon TSI FWD and am in the process of doing all the free mods. I saw on some dsm website that if you cut approx. a 6 inch or so square in the wheel well behind the intercool and get rid of the small slits that vent the intercool and replace it with wire mesh the intercooler will vent better? Any truth to this, I'm going to be cleaning my intercooler this weekend so I figured if it will any even alittle bit why not give me something to do. Any feed back is appreciated, thanks alot!

It does help flow more air through the side mount and its very easy to do. You might as well do it. I did it to mine before I got the Front mount. I just drilled a bunch of holes so it still had some sort of protection from road debris.

You can also follow this link (which I provided to you in the other thread you started) for a tip about the mesh grill.

Some would say that the area in front of the tire (and coincidentally, behind the SMIC) is an area of high pressure. Thus, they claim, trying to "relieve" some of that hot air that has pasted through the SMIC is pointless, because the high pressure area will decrease the possibility for the hot air to be more free-flowing.

It's an interesting observation, and there is certainly validity to their argument, but I think you'll be just fine with doing something similar to what I did.
