Ok I have a buddy thats got a mitsu eclipse around 93.
He has a fully rebuilt motor with aftermarket pistons I think its bored etc..

He has 660 injectors an aftermarket walbro pump that he says is around 190-210 gph

He says his turbo is a ported 20g wtf ever that means.

He has the DSM link and an apexi piggy back.

Now a little about me, I have a z28 and before this I owned 23 Mazda RX7's all NON Turbo. I was the prez of the north eastern rx7 club and am widely known in the rx7 community for custom ignition systems and carb to fi conversions kits.

OK so here is the Q and my opinion at the same time but I may be wrong, I told him I think he should get a nice aftermarket adjustable fuel pressure regulator considering he plans to make "big horsepower" . He already has me looking for a fuel pressure gauge for him and thats when I said "where do you want to monitor the pressure" and he said "at the rail" and then I looked and said "Oh your still running the stock fpr" and kinda cringed.

Maybe Im wrong and the stock fpr can handle fuel pressure capable of driving 400+ hp and is really good, IMO it looks like any other garbage diaphram regulator that should have been swapped a long time ago.

What do you guys that are making "big horsepower" think?

For "big horsepower" his 190-210 pump is probably not going to cut it. He will eventually need something like the 255 or above. At that point his stock FPR is not going to cut it.

You're right.

He will eventually need something like the 255 or above. At that point his stock FPR is not going to cut it.

Exactly. With a 255lph pump, an AFPR is absolutely necessary to keep from running rich and overrunning the stock FPR. Most will even say that an AFPR is nice to have even for a 190lph.

The big name for AFPR's for our cars is the Aeromotive, which can be had in -6AN and -10AN sizes. It replaces the stock FPR with a flange, then a line to the Aeromotive, and most people mount the FPR on the firewall or thereabouts.

A 20g is a very nice sized turbo. Ported usually means that the step in the turbine inlet (if there is one on a 20g) has been removed, and the turbine inlet has been widened to a larger diameter. It also could mean that the path to the internal wastegate area has been enlarged to reduce boost creep.

Tuning Factory off of Grand River at Haggerty has Fuelab AFPR in stock with -6AN in and out. http://www.tuningfactoryinc.com/ http://www.fuelab.com/prod.php?pk=2

Get a Walbro 255lph HP or similar pump.

Follow one of these links and rewire the pump:

Set the base fuel pressure @ 37psi with the vacuum hose off the regulator and the car idling.

Log the fuel trims and iff required, adjust the injector scaling in the DSMlink fuel menu (Global and Dead Time).

Your friend should probably register for the DSMlink forum. It is private forum set up for DSMlink owners that is a very valuable sorce of info.

Thanks for all the positive replies, I almost though for a second I would get slammed since I own a v8 and dont have a dsm.

Good community,Ill make sure I remember that if anyone ever asks about a good dsm forum.

OK Ill relay the info to him and urge him to get an account here, I have a feeling he will be recruiting me to help him with some of his tunning but since its not my car and were not great buds I will try to keep my distance since you never know what could go wrong and I dont want to get blamed for anything. Im sure we have all been there, someone else does the entire engine build up and all you do is turn the key and then get blamed for the engine blowing up.

I was looking at a few on ebay and Im not sure what his budget is but Ill be back on here asking for q's and what not once I get some more input from him.

Thanks everyone and cheers
