I dont really believe this statement, but Ive heard of it enough to post and say does it actually cause crankwalk? I called a DSM shop a little ways north of me and I said that I wanted to have an ACT 2600 clutch and a (undecided brand) flywheel installed and the guy said that he WOULD NOT DO IT because it would cause my car to crankwalk/ be more prone to crankwalk because of more stress on the crank. But if its going to happen, its going to happen right? I really dont want to go 2100 with my AWD, and 2900 is a little much. I know there are other clutches out there, but which are similar to the ACT 2600? How are the SBR clutches?

Thanks for the ideas...

From what I understand crankwalk is a "luck of the draw" batch from the factory. You don't develop crankwalk out of the blue, it just progresses from bad to worse if you got the bad "batch". There are a lot of theories about it. But I'm pretty sure all are agreed that your car was "born" with it.

I just got an ACT 2600 and heard the same thing, but figured, if it hasn't walked in 120k it won't now. *fingers crossed*

But if your car has signs of crankwalk it definitely isn't a good idea, that will most certainly make it worse.

I have a ACT 2100 with a sprung 6 puck disc going in my car this week. It is rated for over 400lbs of torque which is more than the ACT 2600 with a street disc.

I have the same setup that DGajre777 has. Crankwalk is gonna happen if it's gonna happen. There is no real way to prevent it. How many miles on the car. It rarely happens over 100k.

Considering you have a 99 the percentage is alot lower to walk than with 95s. But percentages don't mean a thing to cars, if it wants to walk it will walk. I have a 2600 in my 97 and I've had no problems so far... ::knocks on wood::

Actually, I believe there was a guy who did statistics on crankwalk'd DSMs and the 95 was the least that walked. 9% I think. The 99s were 11% I think. The 97s were 50%. Not to scare you or anything LOL.

But thanks for the info guys. Ya I wasnt about to buy a 2100 because someone said that itll cause C.W.

If its going to happen, itll happen. My car hit 94,500 miles today. I think Im in the clear. If not, o well...I guess the 2600 is going to accelerate it, because Im not settling for anything less with AWD.

unless you want to make 350+ then I'd go with the CFDF, I'd argue it's a much better design, retaining a stock pedal feel with a 2500lb pressure plate, not quite as much as the 2600.. but it literally is a stock pedal pressure.. whether a car crank walks or not a heavy clutch is always harder on all the components invovled with it... I wouldn't get one unless you actually NEED one..

yeah but the problem that im having is that at 15psi my clutch doesn't hold and I'm only using a 14b so... I need a stronger clutch and I'm up grading to an E316g now so i need a better clutch

I agree with the above statement. The CFDF is a fine piece. I have a 2600 and I like the feel of the heavier clutch (just personal preference) Defiant once told me and some will probably disagree with, but I am beginning to believe, and thats that " crankwalk is kinda like the lockness monster of the DSM world, everyone has heard of it or knows someone who has had it, but have never actually seen it themself". Although it does happen, it probably isn't something to lose sleep over, if it happen's it happens, Like it was said before, it can happen to any engine. When we mod these or any car's reliablity will suffer to some extent. We'd all drive Volvo's if we were worried about being safe. And for anyone wanting to argue with the above statement, I am not looking to get into a arguement. Let me just say, I think a CFDF or a 2600 would be fine.

A 2600 will be fine... If you do crankwalk, all the more reason to drop a 6 bolt in it. :thumb: Crankwalk is so o v e r r a t e d... :toobad:
