I just bought a 92 Talon Awd. For some odd reason the kid I bought it off of installed a 7 bolt rebuilt Jasper engine. I beleive it was out of his old 93 fwd. Not knowing anything about theses cars he cranked the boost up and melted one of the pistons. Now heres my dilema, this motor is .30 over from Jasper and he gave me everything to rebuild it. I also have the origional 6 bolt out of this car he sold to me awhile back, it had a burnt valve. I'm not sure what motor to put into this thing. I have all the parts for the 7 bolt bottom end and a rebuilt head. The 6 bolt that I got off of him was also recently rebuilt when I got it off of him. So I need some opinions on what to do here. I'm liking the thought of the 7 bolt bein .30 over but cant stop thinkin that its a 7 bolt. Or I could just spend the extra money and put the 6 bolt back into it. Give me some advice guys.

I would drop in the 7 bolt for now because it is cheaper. And then while you are out actually driving your car having fun build a powerful 6 bolt to put in later on.

Well, the 1g 7 bolts are less likely to crankwalk... So don't let that scare you... Even if it was a 2g 7 bolt, don't let that scare you... It is also a Jasper motor, which is a plus. I say build the $hit out of the 7 bolt. :thumb:

You need to aske jasper this question. Does the jasper engine use stock rods in the rebuild? Stock head bolts? the 6-bolt engine has MUCH better rods and MUCH better head bolts. It will not only be less likely to crankwalk (which i s overrated) bit will handle being a 500hp daily beater. . . I SERIOUSLY doubt jasper has upgraded the internals over stock. Just a good waranteed oem build. . .

Junk the Jasper engine and start from scratch, you don't want to take your chances with it.

I dont even have the car home yet. When I get it here i'm gonna check the motor over. I do know its been bore .30 over, new pistons and rings, bearings, arp head bolts. The reason he sold this to me is b/c he was trying to replace the piston that he melted in the car. Well when he was torquein the rod bolts he broke one. Not sure where he got the specs at but that seems pretty tight. So i'm not sure if i should buy arp rod bolts to replace theses or swap some out of an old 7 bolt i got layin around. Regardless if I use this motor I am going to put it together. I have all the parts so why not.

Almost every Jasper engine has a turned crank, resized rods, welded cams, and line bored cylinder head. That means everything but the bare block is junk and not useable.

I have to agree with the wiseman here....

Jasper engines are typically junk, I know cause I sold them through Advance Auto parts as a manager.

I would never buy one, or run one willingly and for the price its just not worth it, nor is upgrading to a real* rebuild worth the money they charge.

I would run it as is, into the ground, or sell it and build a motor yourself the right way knowing its done right with good parts, techniques. :thumb:

1)Sell the 7 bolt and parts for what you can get for them
2)Build the 6 bolt
3)Get rides for a little while until the motor is done
4)
5)Profit
