My stock oil pressure gauge is not working I can't figure out why. I am going to change it as soon as I get the money, but the goverment doesnt pay me much. Is it common for them to go out and is it worth the trouble to fix it? If it is worth the trouble any suggestions?? And I am going to put in an aftermarket one. thanx

I just had to replace my sending unit last month in order to fix the same problem. I would try that.

see if the sender is clogged. Pull out the sender and spray car and choke cleaner in it and blow some air in it(if you have an air compressor). Also check to see if your wiring is somehow messed up - burned, corroded, disconnected and also check to see that your gauge panel is pushed in all the way(in case you may have removed it for what ever reason in the past).

My stock oi l gauge is reading wrong, i have no b/s so i had high oil pressure but this thing shows that even at my idle my oil press is at the last line before the red zone were the H is, then while driving its in the red zone at cruise ( No way in hell my oil pressure is that high at idle) then i ported my relief valve to lower the pressure and for like 2 days it read a more appropriate level of oil press on the stock gauge,( which was warm idle a little under the middle line, and no more than 3/4s up the gauge at max rpm.) but then lately its been showing the same thing as it was doing before... Idling more than 3/4s up the gauge and being in the red zone. So i was like damn my relief valve piston must be getting stuck or hung up on a sharp edge and not opening, so I took it off AGAIN and reported it some more and tried to smoothen everything out...
Nothing changed... Then i was getting pissed so I took out the screw that holds the springs and piston to the relief valve and started it up to see what it did and ( Doing this should make the oil pressure mad low ) but the gauge still responded the same way even though my oil light came on, so i shut it off quickly only ran it like that for 20 seconds idling ( and no i didnt mess nothing up )

But to sum it up basically that showed me the stock gauge is a complete pos. ( despite being inaccurate to begin with )
Need to get a mechanical gauge hooked up soon, but in the meantime what do you think
would cause the stock one to do this? Maybe the needle is off or a actual sending unit issue?

Cool thaks I didn't even think about taking it off and cleaning it oput I am gonna try that ### I know thwire is still on there thanks for the info
