I driven TT Supras, RX-7 and a bunch of GS-Ts and I never heard this. My E3 16G, granted I had the J-pipe off, whirrs like a vortech supercharger, or if you've ever heard timing gears on a Mustang instead of the chain drive. Its getting oil, but I just want to make sure this is normal before I start boosting to it. Its a genuine MHI E3, I ported it out, and it just came back from getting a fresh rebuild and a re-balance. No shaft play, especially now that its got oil in it. Any thought before I put 20 psi to this?

Well, my buddy has a big-ass turbo on his SRT4, and with his J-pipe off, it kinda does sound like a supercharger. Still smokes AMG's with no problems to report.

I don't know how useful this would be, seeing as the DSM and the SRT are 2 different animals, but I thought I'd give it a try.

I'm bolting it up for the first test drive on the new motor now, so I won't be boosting but i'll find out what it does up to about 3500 rpm on light throttle and post back

Ok I took it for a spin. Didn't really hear anything abnormal with the j pipe and filter connected and hood down. I was babying it, but it seemed that when I shifted at like 2500-3k i heard what sounded like compressor surge. Maybe my adj BOV is set too stiff, but it sounded like it was gurgling almost. I have a straight exhaust, no cat. its probably not enough boost to open the BOV, just want to make sure i'm not damaging my baby.

They are, but they aren't. I consider SRT's to be almost an extension of the DSM family. A friend of mine jokingly calls it the Domestic Import.

I am also having the same problem. I plan to tune the car this weekend just to see if the results is the same.

do you have a boost guage? see what ## boosting at when u let off ## BOV.

I'm breaking in the new engine, so I haven't even boosted yet. I've gotten it up to zero and that's it. I think i'm done with the adjustable BOV and going for a real brand or the 1G crushed
