This is a follow up to my last post. So I just replaced the drivers side lower ball joint, the axle and the leaky driveaxle oil seal. Filled her up with 2qts of fresh tranmission oil from the dealer; took it for a drive and it all seemed great, until i got back and saw the oil leaking all over the floor. The new oil seal is leaking very steady right now where the axle goes into it. What could it be? I got the seal from napa. It seemed like an exact match of the old one. Should i replace it again? Is it possible that I overfilled it and it will stop leaking? This took a week to get done and I'm so frustrated.

It doesn't look like that axle is fully seated in the transmission.

There'a a little clip on the axle that fights you getting the axle in, and sometimes, it doesn't seat inside the tranny, and the axle pops out.

Also, on the drivers side axle on awd cars, the center bearing on the drivers side axle can slide up the short shaft, or the mount can be loose against the motor, and let the driveshaft pop out.

Try and pull the axle out of the tranny. It shouldn't move. If it does, try and reseat the axle.

Good luck!!!

Oh it's not awd, but i guess i will try to push the axle in harder then. Thanks for the tip.

update-
The axle doesn't stay in no matter how hard I press it in! I just dumped another $13 of fliud in and watched it pour right out from the seal. The axle doesn't click snap or pop into place at all, it does sit there and feel like it's lined up. What the heck am I missing???

The piece that's like a ring that goes about 3/4 around the axle with a gap in it? Yeah I have that on.

Yeah it definately not all the way in there.

Do you have your old axle? I'd take a look at it and see if the clips are any different. Only other thing I can think of is to inspect the seat in the transmission.
