Hi,
I own a Mitsubishi Legnum VR-4, it is a Twin Turbo V6 station wagon with 280hp stock and lots of parts from the Evo 5 as standard, including virtually the entire drivetrain. It has the same W5M51 transmission as evo's and came stock with a 4.111 final drive, and a 0.761 5th gear. I've got it up to 400hp now and I'm looking for a taller top gear, either by changing the final drive gear, or by changing 5th gear to a different ratio.

I beleive certain models of eclipse come with w5m51 transmissions as well, but I can't find concrete info on the final drive and 5th gear ratios. Could someone please post up a complete chart of gear ratios including final drive ratios?

Thanks!

Cool, looks like the 2nd Gen AWD Turbo and the early Galant VR-4's have the sort of ratio I'm after for 5th. Does anyone know if the gearbox code for either of these cars is W5M51?

Looks like W5M33 for both 1st and 2nd gen trannies: http://members.shaw.ca/costall/1000Q/answers-specifications.htm#transmission

The FWD tranny should have a taller 5th gear than any of the AWD trannies. That's an easy upgrade for those of us here who do a lot of highway driving.

You might also want to check with some of the tranny shops like TeamRip, jackstransmissions, or Shep. They might have some info on what's compatible between transmissions. I know TeamRip used to make a straight cut taller 5th gear, but I no longer see it on their website.

Have any pictures of the Legnum?

yokotabrat - yeah they are very nice cars, just as fast as an evo/sti/3000gt but they have a usable boot!

snox - it has a remus exhaust, other than that it is stock. It was the very first one in the country and is a 6 speed manual, it's only done 15000km since 2002, we just don't drive it very much, it is the weekend car. I have another VR-4 Legnum. It is completely stock, is white and has a 5 speed tiptronic box, it is my daily driver.

intel - check out www.clubvr4.com heaps of pictures on there of various VR-4's.

Ok, I got a replacement tranny in my car about 10k ago I don't know now if its correct. The tranny shop did it under warranty and I never questioned it til I replaced my TOB.

I found out the model tranny I have is from a RVR and the final drive gear is 3.545 (w5m33-2-MMZL).

I don't know if they gave me the same transfer case from that RVR or used my 98 Transfer Case.

I do know they showed me that they had to change the shifter input shaft and Idk if they did any other changes cause my invoice only states that as a extra note added.

Also they did this about 3 years ago so its not worth trying to call and ask.
