rubbing sound from engine

In the last few days I have noticed a wierd sound coming from the engine bay. I tried to pinpoint it but just can't find it. The volume and speed of the sound is directly related what rpm it is at. If it is around 3500 to 4000 it is more pronounced and faster. And the opposite when it is low rpms. I can hear it when it is idling, but it very faint. I sounds like metal scraping but very lightly, almost a rubbing. I am completly lost on this one so any input would help.

Check your exhaust. Your downpipe could be rubbing against the bottom of the floor board. Also check your motor mounts for good rubber. If one or more are old, the rubber deteriorates over time, and can result in metal-on-metal producing loud noises.

I had this problem, it was actually the flexplate in my tranny. this was when i was automatic of course, some things were broken in the tranny. making horrible noises.. good luck!
