Painless FMIC?

This site may earn a commission from merchant affiliate links, including eBay, Amazon, and others.

you could always do a supra sidemount flows alot over stock.and its cheap al yo ugotta do is switch the endtank over and your basically done

I am really looking for a small FMIC. On the ebay intercooler kits it does not say what the piping is made to fit to, like the j pipe on a 14b/16g or the stock t25. I would just like to get a kit that i can bolt up without to much hacking.

Does anyone know of any cheap intercooler kits that i dont have to hack my bumper/keep fog lights on a 2g?

yea stock. or inferior ones. Your asking for something that doesn't exist, cheap, no hack bumper, and keep foglights.

Hacking is inevitable.

The cheap one out there is the SSAC, best overall for the dollar IMO, but requires hacking the bumper and no keeping the foglights.

A big smic/modified supra smic almost fits what your looking for, but i get this vibe that you want an fmic so you can bling bling and intimidate those who see your car. And as you quoted you are looking for a "small fmic".

Even if you did go for a big smic/modified supra smic, it will cost more than a new more superior in every way except stealth wise--SSAC / XS Auto fmic kit. Dejon's big SMIC is $399 + shipping. SSAC kit is $295-310 shipped, and that includes complete ic piping. A supra smic is a lot cheaper, but I HEAR you have to modify the end tanks or something. Defeats your need of having to do too much modifying.

Now that leaves us with "Brand name" fmic kits, greddy, apexi, hrc, etc. Again hacking is inevitable, there still needs to be some hacking of the front bumper, but not as much as the bigger better race kits and SSAC kit LOL. Most if not all allow you to keep your foglights, BUT they are not cheap. You can probably find many greddy and apex'i fmic kits for sale from owners who have upgraded to SSAC kit or better. This is what i did, I sold my Greddy 24row kit for $350~? But again consider this is used and not like new.

Hope you get the idea, ask yourself which one of those 3 things in your criteria you can give up, and it will narrow things down.

Yes I am biased towards the SSAC kit, its absolutely an amazing kit for an amazing price, others will vouch for it, and yes I did come from a Greddy 24row.

But for a more straight forward answer to your question, check out the Greddy small fmic kit. No one really runs it these days, but you can keep your foglights, and very minimum hacking of the front bumper. But geez does that thing suck. My friend has it, it looks puny, the piping is the not efficient maze like piping also found in the 24r kit, i believe it is tube and fin also and fins get bent easy, but cheap if you find someone who is selling it, because they are probably trying to get rid of it :)

the writeup is in that link.

i think the total was like 300-350$. i havent looked at those cores lately, but when i did it you could get them for 170$ shipped. all my materials cost me around another 100$ (pipe, metal straps, etc). plus a 12 pack for my buddy's dad who welded the pipe for me. i think those same cores are a little more expensive now, they shot up in pricing due to popularity, every local dsmer around me made the exact same fmic kit like mine within a few weeks of learning you dont have to spend 800$ on a name brand to get the same dam results. one of our locals even used a temperature sensor mounted after the IC to record intake temps via dsmlink, and the ebay core was 5* cooler than the spearco ones, and had a higher airflow (logged with dsmlink and a gm 3bar map) as well. i wish i still had the logs but i sold the laptop that had all my dsmlink stuff on it when i got out of the GST.

and yeah, mild steel. i had ordered SS but they didnt have any in stock, so they sent mild anyways and gave me a deduction, no biggie, as i was gonna paint them anyways.

this is how the piping is routed.

J-Pipe, cut a bit shorter with a beaded lip.

reducer from j-pipe (1.75" iirc) to 2.5"

2.5" 90* elbow that points towards the drivers side with a bead at the upper lip where it meets the j-pipe

foot or so of 2.5" straight pipe welded to the U bend (6" Radius) to straight pipe, with a 6" leg on it that is beaded at the end to go into the fmic inlet.

leading from the fmic outlet is 2.5" U bend that was cut in half with the other end of the cut off pipe (straight side) welded to the elbow to make a Slanted S pipe. the end of that is beaded and sticks up through the stock side mount outlet location which met up with the 90* slant elbow coupler and greddy hard IC kit and greddy bov.

pics will explain. its pretty easy.

ill also do a more detailed writeup when i do the same on my 1g.
