Hi guys..I am in the process of putting my transmission back together I am stuck and need help putting the trash magnet in its orignal place. I dont want to guess since the gears can eat it up. When I pulled the case off the magnet came out with it and have no idea where it goes. Does someone have a picture to where it actually goes? Thanks in advance for your help. This is for a 2g FWD Eclipse Transmission.

As I recall on my AWD there was a "cove" or cut out in the clutch housing side of the tranny (the side of the housing that bolts to the engine). This cut out lies along the surface where you put the RTV Silcone to seal the Clutch Housing to the Trans Axle Case (between the engine side housing and the middle housing). Along that sealing surface towards the bottom you should see about a 1" by 3/8" rectangular cut out for the magnet and it's steel retainer to drop into.

As I recall it was not intuitive for it location right off the bat, but if you study the housings of the tranny you will see oil paths that run into that cove. I believe the oil came from the 5th/reverse gear end of the tranny, then over the magnet, and around it. Yet this is my recollection from this fall.

I know this is not a direct answer for a FWD, but I believe the tranny cases are similar to an AWD. I will look for a pic too.
