My friend doesn't have an account so I figure I'd post something for him. He says he hears a leak that comes from around the exhaust housing. He also said he can only hear it when its cold. Any ideas that I can shoot at him?

Tell him it's free to register and we'll be happy to help him. That way we can directly ask him questions if needed to clarify things and direct him to helpful links.;)

Not sure what you mean by exhaust housing exactly, o2 housing? Unless theres a crack or something theres only a few things it could be. Exhaust manifold gasket, o2 to turbo gasket, or o2 to downpipe gasket. Get some seafoam and use it, have the hood up and watch where the smoke comes out :)

Well he would but you can't with a normal yahoo account.

I'll tell him to run seafoam through it. I'm assuming he meant near the exhaust manifold but am not sure because I have not gotten to see the car yet. He's going to bring it by Friday so I'lll update then.

sometimes the manifold gasket will leak but when it warms up and the metal expands and seals itself back up.

Well I finally got to take a look at it and it sounds more like a ticking to me. They still think its an exhaust leak. It only makes the sound when he revs the car and gets louder as he revs. It's definitley coming from the front. It sounded like it was coming from the head but they all think it's coming from the exhaust manifold or j-pipe. Any thoughts?

I used to have the problem of my exhuast manifold popping out and I would get the same noise. pull that heat shield and take a look.
