tsi 96 sunroof gets stock when i try to open it. If I push back with my hands as it opens it goes all the way. What can be the problem?:beatentodeath:

sounds like the motor for the sunroof is going. Maybe time to get a new sunroof motor?

Kind of sounds like the motor is going, but I would also check your fuses. I believe the sunroof's fuse is located in the fuse box underneeth the passenger side on the lower right hand side of the box. Check to make sure that it isnt blown, or hell replace it. It should only cost like $3 for any auto parts place. If that isn't it, check the wires of the sunroof and make sure that it is properly grounded.

Let me know if you have any more questions. :thumb:

the motor seems to be fine because once i give it a push it goes all the way by itself and it closes without any help by itself. I notice yesterday that the sunroof kind of tilts a little whan i try to opened. Its like the left side gets a little behind.

This is exactly what happend to my sunroof before it recently got stuck open. There was a certain point in the track which it always needed to be pushed or pulled to open or close. I haven't had time to mess with it, but I can't pull it closed anymore. It moves about a half inch now. It's almost closed but it's still tilted up a little. I don't think its the motor because I can hear it and it moves a bit. This happened a few days after one side started tilting a bit and was almost dragging the other side along. I think its something with the track because its stuck at the same point where I always messed with it before. I would recommend keeping it closed til you have more than enough time to fix it. I haven't fixed mine because its still freezing in NY. Later this week it's suppose to get nice, if I figure out whats wrong with it, I'll get back to you.

Please do. I will really appreciate it! Once you know what the heck is wrong let me know!!

thanks!

Sometimes a motor gets bound up. For example, I recently had a motor on my window that got bound up and would stop working. I took it out, cleaned out all the sediment and then re-installed. You may check the condition of your motor first... either that or go to a junkyard...

The usual recommended lubricant is white lithium grease, but I think it's a little heavy for the application, and it migrates and collects dirt. If you can find it, CRC makes a moly spray which goes on dry. After that, I'd recommend Dri-Slide or Tri-Flow, both available at gun shops.
WD-40 is good, but I'd use a bit of it every month. Not very much. And, like motorcycle chain, any lube you can reach to wipe off isn't doing any lubricating in the first place.
