Knock ?

I've read lots of post on knock so I guess I'm just posting for some peace of mind. Disregard my mods in my profile except for 2g manifold, 16g @ 9 LBS, o2 dump, downpipe.

The other day I was going WOT and the knob on my boost controller flew off when I was at 6,500 rpm. My knock went to 43 counts and the wastegate closed or something, I didn't hear spool either. Fixed that and everything was fine, no knock or smoke or shaft play.

Today I was on the freeway accelerating slowly and my knock went from 20-43 counts. It didn't do it the next minute. On the way home it started again, 10-30 counts while cruising around 3,500 rpm. It would not do it everytime so I was thinking it was phantom knock maybe.

WOT knock counts are below 10 if NOT 0, no need to post a log on that.

I also can't hear any obvious knocking, although I can't say I know what real knock sounds like. Do you guys think its real knock or PK.

I should also add that this happens every once in a while but today it would keep knocking, which is unlike other times.

It may be pk. If you start to get it release the gas and hit it again real quick, if it dissapears than its most likely pk. Make sure your fuel trims are inline and you should be ok.

I thought 90's were not able to monitor fuel trim? Could be wrong?

What if it's not pk?


I have fuel injectors, a fuel pump, safc2 and intercooler ready to put in, should help if it's real knock.

My car was fine all day until on the way home from work it started doing the same thing again. I tried what jayrolla said and it worked so I guess it is probably pk. It was not knocking at WOT so it should be ok.

Yea I would guess it was just pk. Its not normal to see knock off boost and the motor usually will never knock off boost.

And you are right you cant see your fuel trims on a 90, I forgot about that. Also I thought you had some fuel mods which can mess up your trims and I see now you are pretty much stock. You should be fine.
