As I was driving my car I felt a weird issue with my clutch, it felt like it got softer so I turned around and took her home. While pulling in my driveway I put the car in nuetral and it was idleing at around 1500 as I took my foot off the clutch the rpms dropped to around 800. So I engaged the clutch again and rpms rose to around 1500 again and then on release dropped to 800. Should I be worried about this, other than the fact that my car idles so high?

What exactly do you mean that your car would idle at 800 with the clutch released? If you have the car sitting still in your driveway and you release the clutch the engine should stall out.

I realized that. Im asking because of the fact that if it were in neutral there wouldnt be any cause for the RPM to change.

I've noticed that mine does that to but most noticeably when it is cold. I think that it is because when you release the clutch, the engine has to spend some of the transmission. This slighly loads the engine. Could your fluid in your tranny be low or old?

But the drop happens when I press the clutch, not release. And the fluid is pretty much brand new. It could be low, I havnt checked it but I was leaking gear lube for a little bit but im pretty sure it was from my t-case. Could it be a bad slave?

I hope its not my throw out bearing because I just replaced it with my clutch not even 200 miles ago. And when the clutch is released I listend under the hood while I had my dad inside being a pedal monkey, and I defnitly heard somthing coming from my trans.

i have the exact same problem as you!
when i press the clutch sitting in neutral, the rpm will drop about 200rpm.
its very annoying because my car doesn't have balance shafts and it vibrates like crazy.
i have a brand new release bearing and act 2600 installed about 200 km ago .
the release bearing is OEM

i have no clue whats going on
anybody solve this before?

Did anyone ever come up with a cause, effect and or solution?
I have the same issue?

I also have an issue with the leaking drive shaft.. (I got the recall Kit.. Will install it soon)
So could this be a sign of low gear oil?

Yesterday the car felt sorta sluggish... so while I was parking I notice that each time I pressed the clutch in there was a 200 or so RPM drop.

So just like what's posted above in the 2007 post... While the car is at idle and the clutch pushed in - It drops rpms..

The harder I push the more of a drop It seem to get...

The last time I drove the car... which was 9 days before... Things seemed okay...
I did not notice the "sluggish feel" or the RPM drop.

I don't drive this car that much... maybe less then 2000 miles a year... and I keep fresh oils in the car both gear and motor.... The car is new gear oil in all 3 spots... Trans Xfer and Rear Diff.... (I seem to have a leak near or on the drive shaft... not sure how much oil is coming out... I know I can smell it burning on the cat so I might be a fair amount)

Is this a sign of crankwalk and the car is doomed or did you guys find a fix?
Did putting in a new TO bearing help the issue?

So for now the car is offline and parked until I can find a fix...

Thanks for the help

My car does the opposite//

It that normal??

I race around for a bit// then my rmps dont drop below 1500//

I have to park and neutral it for a minute before rpms drop back below 1k//

it that the ecu holding the revs high because it thinks im racing around?

i have the same issue with a rebuilt motor and tranny with a act 2600 and new TOB

Same problem.

Rebuilt motor, new ACT 2600, new TOB.

It's worse when the car is cold. When it's cold and I push the clutch it the RPMs drop and the car stalls out and dies in neutral.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Tom

if there is a sound with the clutch out (foot off the pedal) its the throw out bearing. if not than it is the input shaft bearing on the transmission. this is a verry common problem on the awd trans and some fwd. it isnt a cause for alarm until it WILL eventually start leaking gear oil. also if it drops more than 200-400 rpm it is crankwalk. when you push down the clutch pedal it puts over 1000 lbs on the crank....... which will load up the thrust washers/bearing when it wears enough it will actually move the crank side to side. that can throw the crankshaft ou of the engine

Ahhh ok... good info here... thanks... I will replace a few things and report back.
The sluggish feel I reported in the first post could be a boost leak.

The car only holding 2psi... so the leak is massive....

Once I get the recall kit installed I will let you guys know whats up with my car.

Again thanks for all the reply info!
