With both my talons when I hold the shifter almost in second but not all the way it makes a loud grinding noise even though the clutch is depressed completely. Why does it do that if the clutch is pressed? Is this bad? Anyone know?

A) Transmission Synchonizers, typical for 1g's
B) Clutch system isnt working 100%

Since you said both cars are doing it, are they comparable in condition? i think its just stock 1g tranny blues.

Try your luck at double clutching, it helped when my 2gear syncros went, its pretty easy at that.

Bascilly when you got to shift from first to second, drop it in neutral first, push clutch once, then match rpm and ease it into 2nd and it should go fairly easy.

If you remove the front cover to your tranny there are 2 36mm nuts in there that hold your gears and all in place and those are known to loosen up and cause some play in shifting...its a bi*** to get to but it has fized some cars before.

lm not sure how it works on a 1g but im positive that they have adjustment on the pedal assembly it self. its 12mm bolt where the pedal meets the fire wall.

Its the pushrod adjustment on the master cyl. Loosen the Nut, and spin the shaft to increase or reduce distance.

might make a difference. I had a 92 NT that had tranny problems. I adjusted it out as far as it would go, Made it feel kinda wierd shifting, but stopped the grinds.

I wouldnt recommend this as a perm fix.

could you help me out with the master cyl adjustment. Which direction does what? Like if I untighten it will the clutch engauge higher in the pedal release.

Im gonna try this first cause I really dont know enough or have a lift to do the other stuff

Well, when you rotate the shaft, its either going to shorten the distance, or incease the distance.

If you increase the distance, it will Increase the push travel.

if you reduce the distance, it will reduce the amount of travel.

You cant mess it up really, just loosed the nut, and turn the shaft, you will be able to tell right away which direction is doing what. you want to Increase the distance.

But like i said, if it is infact a worn clutch, or synchronizers failing. All your going to be doing is increasing the Stress on your pressure plate.

Does the clutch slip any? In 5th gear if you mash the gas will it motor rev higher but speed doesnt climb at the same rate.

If the clutch doesnt slip, it would point towards the synchros.
