i am getting a tapping noise from my newly built 2.3l motor. It makes a loud tapping noise at idle but goes away when you rev the engine or while driving. what could cause this?

I am thinking that maybe my lifters are going bad but then when i look at my Oil Pressure guage both the stock and autometer it is sitting close to nothing. while driving i look at the oil pressure guage around 4-4.5k rpms and it barely reaches 25psi
could my oil pump be going out?

could this cause the noise?

what should the normal oil pressure be when the engine is warm?

does the oil pressure change when you stroke the motor to 2.3?

the click clacking noise seems to be louder...i am reading around 25 psi of oil pressure at 4k rpms..should i replace my oil pump? how can i check the oil pump with out taking off the front main cover?

Well I don't have a good gauge so I can't tell you what mine runs at. But general rule is 10 psi for every 1000 rpms. So I would not drive it anymore untill you get it fixed. Was the oil pump replaced with the rebuild?

no the oil pump was not replaced. (i know i should have) I only had 52000k miles when i started my rebuild i thought maybe the oil pump should be good..guess i was wrong..

so it is the oil pump then? just to be sure
