I'm going to be using the emulator on a laptop, anyone know where I can get the cable from to connect my PC to the car. Or even better yet, how to make one? I'm looking high and low and not finding much when it comes to getting/making the cable

You can get the both cables on ebay fairly cheaply, first get the link cable that connects to the diganostic port and which hooks up to the palm, and since you want to use a laptop buy an adapter cable that hooks into the link cable and has a usb on the other end. haha idk if that makes sense i tried:D

Anyone know what wires go to what pins in the OBD port? Didn't see it in the bottom thread...

They are in my schematic in the first post of the thread on the right side. ALDL = DLC = OBD I port.
Pin 1 is the top left pin and pin 12 is the bottom right.

Thanks! Someone care to elaborate as to why or how ALDL=DLC=OBD I port?

For our purposes they are different names for the same thing.

ALDL - Assembly Line Diagnostic Link
DLC - Diagnostic Link Connector
OBD I - Onboard Diagnostic 1

Again, thank you. I've been doing alot of reading lately and have see all these terms, but didn't know what they were so what I have been reading hasn't made much sense, it's alll clear now LOL.

Next question, I should be able to use a palm emulator on a laptop and still be able to run the mmcdlogger software and it should work just like a regular palm right? I've read about people who knew people who have done this, but never anything that was first hand...

I don't use the emulator on a PC so I can't comment.

http://mmcdlogger.sourceforge.net/ is kinda confusing and not very clear to me. Is there an english version, LOL. I'm confident that I can get this going. Once I have everything running and working, where can I go to read on what all the numbers mean, how they relate to each other, and where should the numbers be vs where they are, etc.? I feel like i'm at the point where I can read the data, have an SAFC to change things, but don't know how. I don't mind playing around with things little by little and seeing what happens, I just kinda want some guides to follow so I know "when I see ___ value reach ___ level or point or number, i'm starting to get into "engine damage" territory"

Since i'm using a Treo 650, I may try this. Serial cable I made-->serial to usb adapter-->treo hotsync cable. Unless someone has tried this already? I assume the good people at pocketlogger have LOL.

i make this cable last night will it work on the 1990 cars as well. i guess i should have asked due to the difference in the electrical systems. thanks
