Hi. I noticed that my car is running a little rich because when i went to smog test it, i got a high hydrocarbon reading. I also noticed that my gas mileage is crap. What i want to know is how i can make my car run leaner.

I just recently did a tune up for the car. I put a K&N fipk in for better air flow. Changed the oil and oil filter. Flushed the engine with some "engine flush" i bought from kragen. Changed spark plugs. Cleaned the throttle body. Cleaned PCV valve. One thing i wasnt able to change was the fuel filter. I couldnt get it off

What could be the cause of my car running rich? Can a boost leak cause this? How about a bad fuel filter? If you know of any causes, please list them so i cant check it out. :thumb:

P.S. Btw i passed smog with my Hydrocarbon 1 point away from failing, my Nox level was good, My CO level was good too.

Wouldnt my checkengine light come on if my o2 sensor was messed? Because my checkengine light doesnt come on.
No not all the time. Thats the first thing I would replace..
Make sure when testing you dont idle too long that will raise you HC and Co's. Run your car hard and get it nice and hot before getting it tested..
