hey, i own a 1998 Mit. Spyder Eclipse with an automatica transmission, the car has a 2.4L engine, just recently it started to mess up, and i was wondering if a auto. transmission out of a 1998 eclipse 2.0L would fit in my car? i looked under the hood but didnt see any difference, unless the bellhousings are difference size...and if that the case, can you swap out or change the bell housing? id apreaciate any info i could get on this...thanks!
 
If you have a GST spyder, it has the 4g63... And if yours is 2.4L it still has the same 2.0L block just bored and new internals and what not... So the transmission should bolt right up... Or are you saying you turboed a 420a? What engine do you have?:confused:

Both the 4G63 and the 4G64 will bolt in eachothers place so the bellhousing wont be a problem.

I believe he said he has a 2.4 L and saying that no he does not have a 420a.
and yes the trans should go right up to it if it is from a turbo 2.0 4g63 but not if it's the 420a 2.0.
 
Sorry to bring back an old thread, but I am in the process of deciding what to do with the tranny in my spyder as well (4g64 2.4l).
So the tranny from a 4g63 gs-t will be able to bolt up? what about the tcu? aren't the gear ratios different, would I need any other parts from the gs-t to get it to work with my car?
It is a pain to find parts for the spyder sometimes, I have only seen one transmission around where I live...
So all the info I can get is highly appreciated
 
Basically my question is if I were to bolt up a Gs-t tranny to my Spyder gs, what parts/work would I need?
 
Hey, try posting your question on the 4g64 yahoo email group. I know a few poeple on there still have their auto transmissions and might be able to narrow down what parts you need exactly.

I like your idea of getting the gst trans, definitely less work than doing a manual swap and will help out when/if you turbo the 4g64. But your auto tranny should work fine anyway...
 
I have quite a bit of experience with the 2.4L 4g64, and the interchanble parts from a 2g Turbo.

Yes, the transmission will bolt up just fine, as long as theyre both FWD (Obviously).
Its when you use a 2.4L transmission on a 2.0L, when work needs to be done. (Simply shaving part of the bell housing down, on the inside)

The gears of a 4g63, 2.0L, transmission are much shorter than the 4g64, 2.4L, transmission.

Currently im using a 4g64 transmission on my 6bolt 4g63, with an AWD 5th gear, and havent had any problems. I am also reving to 7750! :D (4g64 Redline is 6000).
