Sorry if this was posted before but I searched and could not find the answer. Anyways I have a 94 1G FWD I am going to do my first clutch change ever on. I have read all the stuff about changing it so I do not think I need help there. But I am more interested in what the cause of this sound I am hearing is.

Background: I bought the car from the this guy who said it has a bad clutch, the engine runs great but when I push the clutch pedal down I hear a rubbing sound almost like rubbing two pieces of sandpaper together. Regardless I all ready have a new ACT 2100 ready to go in plus a new slave cylinder, clutch fork, and some bg sycro shift. (This will be my DD)

I am doing all of this because there is something obviously something wrong with the clutch but I want to make sure doing all this will fix it.

So what’s causing the sound? And will what I am doing fix it?

Thanks

This may not be your problem, but not too long ago mines did the same thing, made a rubbing sound soon as the clutch pedal was depressed any bit.
Well turned out the front ear of my block that holds the front bottom tranny bolt had snapped off due to severly bad motor mounts and also caused the top bolt to snap off some how, so my tranny had managed to back out about an inch off of the block
so when i pressed the clutch the bellhousing was actually twisting a little bit and causing the flywheel to grind on the inside of it ever so slightly which caused the noise...

Hopefully this isnt your problem though because your could mess up your input shaft like this, but just check to make sure the trannys on their snug and tight with all the bolts in and then on top of that see if your clutch pedal needs to be adjusted ( might not have proper throw too much throw could cause this ) and if that, and your master and slave cylinders are good then id suggest it would be a throw out bearing or fork.
