My ball joint is just about to snap apart. I know there is a recall on these for 2g's, but i never got the notice in the mail or anything. So, I called the mitsu dealership and asked, they ran my VIN number and said that there aren't any open recalls for my car. Is this possible or do you think they are just being lazy?

No, I ran into the same thing. I bought my Eclipse, found that I needed to replace on of my front ball joints, called the dealer, and they told me that all of the recalls had been filled.

I've read on here somewhere that they should be filled no matter what, yet other people have the same situation we have. I'm not sure how true this is but if someone who has also been in this situation could help out, we'd appreciate it.

I held on to the recall notice that I received regarding the ball joints. This letter is dated 9-25-01. At the very top it states:

SAFETY NOTIFICATION: (AFFECTED MODELS)
1994-1998 GALANT
1995-1999 ECLIPSE
1996-1999 ECLIPSE SPYDER

Re: IMPORTANT SAFETY RECALL NOTIFICATION (SR-01-007)

It goes on to say:

"In the event your retailer should fail to perform the corrective procedure at no charge or not within a reasonable time, contact our Customer Relations Department or the Administrator, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 400 Seventh Street S.W., Washington, D.C. 20590, or call the Auto Safety Hotline toll-free at (888) 327-4236."

The number it gives for Mitsu's customer relations dept is 888-648-7820
The material in bold type I copied verbatem from the recall notice.

If you would like any other info from this notice let me know.

Hope this helps you guys out. Good luck.

I just got mine fixed under the recall last fall. I broke them doing a clutch intstall. The recall is only for the lower lateral control arms- the straight ones. If you try hard enough you should be able to make them fix it. There is also a recall on the transfer case you might make them look at while they have your car.

Thanks for the info, I appreciate it. But I called both numbers. Customer correalations of Mitsubishi stated that the car was inspected in 2001 and the ball joint was sealed. I argued that point and they said they cannot assist me any further. They transferred me to the auto saftey hotline. She argued as well, stating that once the dealership inspects the recalled item and/or fixes it, then you are responsible for what happens after that. I argued with her for a few minutes and then she agreed to file a complaint which doesn't mean anything or help me out at all, but I did it anyway. Now what do I do? I know there is a way to get around this. Is there anyone that was in my position in the past?

I took my 95 Talon tsi to a gm dealership. they ran my vin numbers, and found that the ball joints had already been replaced. But i knew the shop manager, and they ordered them for me anyways. My point is that if you know someone that could help you like this than contact them.
