Ok I have been looking in the posts for a couple of days and I got some good ideas, but all were wrong. My 1995 talon awd turbo has an oil leak. I bought it from calli and drove it home and it done fine all the way here. I go out to start it one morning and it sounds like a diesel. I check the oil and theres none in it. I go pump 5 quarts in it and the next day it is low again . now there is no oil on my patio there is no oil on burn on the plugs and it doesn't smoke EXCEPT WHEN IT IDLES FOR A LONG PERIOD OF TIME, AFTERWARDS WHEN THE TURBO KICKS IN IT SMOKES SLIGHTLY,but nothing to constitute the amount of oil I'm loosing, er that is dissapearing. There is no water in the oil or vice versa. I think that the turbo is leaking oil back into the intake at a steady rate but not enough to smoke and..........aw hell I don't know. could some one help me:confused: I know the gs but this is my first gsx tsi Thanks all

Interesting. Heres a few ideas you can try out. Replace the PVC valve. I know this doesn't cause you to loose 5 quarts in one day, but it'll only help, plus it's probably due for one. Now you mentioned that theres no water in the oil, so that eliminated the head gasket, however you could have burnt piston rings, allowing oil to get in from the bottom. Try doing a compression test and/or a leak down test. Other than that, I can only think of your turbo smoking. Just keep in mind that if your loosing oil and its not showing up on the floor, it has to be getting burnt and pushed outta the exhaust. My personal bet is that you have a shot turbo.

I agree with checking the turbo. Pull the intake pipe off the compressor (cool motor), grab the nut on the end of the compressor wheel and see if you can pull it in/out at all. Also check that it spins freely and side/side freeplay isn't enough that the vanes touch the housing. If you have excessive play (any in/out, too much side/side) or the turbo doesn't spin freely, your turbo is either gone or going soon.

If the oil is leaking out the compressor side, it'll end up in your intercooler. Pull the LICP off the intercooler (lower hose going into the driver's side of the IC) and see if a quart or two of oil pours into the pan you remembered to put underneath ;).

If the oil is leaking out the turbine side, you can unbolt your downpipe from the O2 housing and see if the inside of the O2 housing is coated in oil. You might first check to see if there's oil in your exhaust tips at the back of the car.

5 quarts is a lot. If you were burning it, you'd see a lot of smoke whether the engine sucked it in from the compressor side or burned it as it leaked into the 1500*F turbine housing.

I'd guess that a popped dipstick tube would be obvious from all of the oil splattered in the engine compartment and would probably drip when you parked the car.

Do you have any enemies or strange friends that like to play weird practical jokes?
