Hey guys I need to find a F5MC1 transmission for a 97 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS
Wondering if anyone could help me define what the common slang for this transmission is so I can find it more readily?

I am assuming that this car is referred to a 2G non turbo correct?

I am not finding a lot of hits under the search criteria F5MC1…

Wondering if someone can give me any info to help me search for possible leads to find both parts and or a full transmission.

And if you have any leads or good advice my ears are open :)

Well I need some help!

Transmission went out (F5MC1) in a 97 manual

What places around here service or will sell rebuild parts?

Any good guys to talk to about solutions?

Symptoms are: the top shift lever (front to back) has no resistance on it and the tranny will not engage any gears? I cant even feel the reverse lockout hump!

Any suggestion as to cause and repair difficulty.

Have an alternate mode of transportation, so repairing this would be an option if you guys think it can be repaired?

Or I could just get a different tranny and pop it in there, any suggestions?

Any experienced veterans care to share some wisdom?

Thanks

with the loss of all gears, id first suspect a linkage failure, pop the hood, and have someone in the car running through what used to be your gears, check to see if the linkage is moving, on a gs, its gonna be on the drivers side. If its all moving normal, pull the tranny.

Thanks for the replies guys, sorry for the somewhat erratic unformatted post up top, was heading out the door and wanted to post quickly...

OK what I do know is that the external linkages seem to be fully intacked, as the cables all move freely and the linkage arms rods that extend into the casing do move with the linkage arms.

There is no resistance on the front to back motion of the shifting mechanism, bur there is normal resistance in the side to side motion of the shift lever, but I am assuming this is due to the return spring on the shifter mechanism.

When it when out it was not in a hard shift or even a hard acceleration, it was in mild traffic (in the slow lane) I was actually driving it and I went through 1st – 4th and then noticed as I went into 5th the lever had no resistance and I pulled to a safe spot off the road. Once stopped it would not go into any gear.

Luckily it happened right when it did, because I was almost on the interstate, and we don't have a comfortable shoulder around here on I5 because of so many bridges and poor city planning not allowing for growth! There are 2 lane bottleneck sections through many parts of the main congested city! ??

Anyway if someone has experienced this, and could clue me into what I am to expect, as I am fairly certain that I am going to crack this thing open and just do it myself if it will be monetarily beneficial to do it my self, as opposed to just replacing it. As I mentioned it won't be a time issue as I have alternate modes of transportation, and can take my time and do it correctly.

Any information I could give to help diagnose this thing any better?

Thanks again for your time and help guys!
