What set up are you running with an aftermarket smic?

I want to keep the sleeper look so I was planning on either the big smic from Dejon or a supra sidemount...i was wondering what set up/hp you are running on a smic without heatsoak and your opinions on whether i should go with the Dejon smic or a supra smic. What do you guys think?

My step brother (2 years ago maybe?) did 398FWHP on 20g and supra side mount with c16 and 30 psi haha, what was the most fun I ever had with torque steer!!!

I am running an EVO3 16G on a HRC SMIC. I start to get significant knock if I go above 18-19 psi. But I only have 550's. Having said that I am planning on going with meth injection. Truthfully, if I could go back in time I probably would have gone with a FMIC the first time around.

extreme turbo systems (.com) has nice intercoolers big time sleepers they dont have the pipes sticking out on the sides . i got the 7" fmic im running 20psi on there short route kit its worth it !:thumb: .
or buy whatevers and spray it black?

I am running this same setup, but with meth injection. I run 20-22psi on pump gas with no knock.....it is a bit more of a PITA than a FMIC setup but I am quite happy with it. I used to have a FMIC and a 50 trim, but I got tired of every ricer seeing my intercooler and thinking they needed to have a 20 minute conversation with me about it. To run any sort of significant boost on any SMIC, you are going to need something to aid in cooling the air. Granted, all my experience comes from a mile above sea level, so that throws things off a bit....

Another route is to paint a frontmount with the end tak inlet/outlets pointing into the engine bay so you don't see any clamps/couplers at all. Just an idea :)

It's not a good idea to spray paint your IC as it will interfere with optimal heat exchange. The paint acts as a barrier between the aluminum and the surrounding air inhibiting the radiation of heat away from the IC. It's analogous to having oily residue buildup on the inside of it. It will still work but not nearly as well.

Mitchel63, that's great to hear. I can't wait to get my meth injection setup!:thumb:

Im also running the HRC SMIC, my setups is big evo 3 16g turbo, walbro 190, 850cc injectors, upper ic, ported mani and o2 housing, 3inch exahust, dsm link , boost controller, i havent turned up the boost past 15psi but i read that it loses one psi at 400 horse, but other people have told me that past 18psi it will be hard to control the knock. So i think im going to go with meth injection and see if i get heat soak or ditch it and go front mount.

There are many OEM intercooler applications that are painted black and they all work just fine.

What do you think the heat transfer coefficient of aluminum oxide is? :D

Better than an air to air SMIC would be an air to water SMIC.

pop that thing in your fender, save your pennies for some 3" tubing and couplers, shut the hood and no one would ever be the wiser. Additionally neat, the heat transfer capabilities of that thing aren't affected by the tiny air inlet that the stock SMIC needs so badly.

You're right that some oem applications are painted and we all know how performance is the top priority in the "oem mindset."LOL Like I said, a painted aluminum IC, radiator, etc. will still work, just not as well. I have yet to see a painted IC on a forced induction race car. Maybe some use them, I just haven't seen it.:)

Besides, black absorbs energy from the sun and heats up......j/k:p Although, hmmm.:D

Ohh, yes no doubt about that. I don't think he's building a F1 car though, so stealthy black will do if a SMIC will not. :D
