ok i have a few leds that are out on my gauges, so i decided that for 4.95 a whole new set of gauges off ebay were worth it. so far i have the entire gauge cluster out and separated. so now i have acess to the gauges them selves. but now the problem is that i cant get the gauges out to swap them. i can see that the gas/temp and the oil/turbo gauges have screws that might be holding them in. but the spedometer and the rpm gauge dont have anything holding them in but the needles. so do i need to take the needles out? if so how do they come off i dont want to just start ripping things apart.

thanks

one thing i had to do is cut the gauge to get it out and on. If they are just the laminated ones like mine, then that's a you have to do. Other then that it is really hard to put the other type on cause you have to slide them down the needle and pop them on.
If you try taking the needles off you will lose your speedo spring windings and have problems there. so Try the way I told you then if that don't happen to work, try finding a way to take apart the cluster without losing your spring tention

hmm... well the gauges that are on there now are the white face gauges. and im pretty sure the 97 gst came with black gauges so they were probably changed at one piont or another. and the ones that are on there now arent cut and the hole is too small to slide over the needle so there has to be a way to get it apart. and the new gauges have a circuit board on the back of them so cutting them probably wouldnt be a good idea. ill try and get some pictures of what im talking about to clear things up a little.

Use a flat head screwdriver to pop the needles off the gauges. Just make sure when you take the needles off they're at the resting point on the gauges(0mph). Then you peel the gauge faces off and put new overlays on top of the existing gauges. Just be careful with the needles you don't want to loose the calibration point. Then after the gauges are on put the needles back on at the resting point.
