So when I would start the car it would rev up to 3 grand then try to idle down and it would die. When i put the jumper cables on it, it would run for like 5 or 6 mins before diying, so i got new battery terminals, do i need a new battery also?

It depends. Did the new terminals (you mean connectors at end of cable right?) resolve the idle issue? If not use a voltmeter to check condition of battery and voltage at the alternator. You can also take it to an Autozone, NAPA, etc. and have them check it. They can perform a load test on it.

Also check for vacuum leaks. Look for loose hoses and listen for a sucking sound while car is idling. Other things can cause an erratic idle as well. Let us know.

Funny thing this came up. My brothers car was dieing everytime he would put in the clutch. We thought the clutch was gone, we pulled the tranny and everything was perfect. HMMM.

We then started thinking motor problem, maybe crank walk. Come to find out it was just a corroded battery terminal. The motor was running off just the alternator. Wierd that it would run perfect exept when you put in the clutch.

Have the battery and alternator tested.

I had a problem with my battery that caused my car to idle funny. I checked my terminals and what not prior to replacing. When I put the new battery in the alternator had much less draw on it. It leads me to believe that yes the battery can cause issues, they can short out internally.

well i changed the terminals, and it didn't help that much, the car will hold at 3 grand and try to idle for a while then i saw smoke coming from either the intake manifold gasket or the injector seals. i guess
