ok here is the deal. i have a 95 gsx and i am doing a 1g swap so far what i have ordered are a stroker kit with 8.5-1 pistons. i am also going with some dual coil valve springs,ss 1mm over valves, 3rd model lash adj ( for the tick) and some comp 272/272 cams. i had a friend tell me to take the balancer shaft out. so i guess my question is 1 what will that actually do for me? 2 will that effect my idle any more than it already will be with the cams? my total goal out of the car is 500 hp.:dsm: :thumb:

Everytime we have removed the balance shafts on a car it might it shake real bad at lower rpms but once it got up there it was fine. It didnt affect performance at all, the benefits to it are that they are known for backing out and ruining the timing belt which in turn ruins alot of internals.

ok thanks alot for the info. no for another question if i go with a set of 272/272 cams and 1mm over valves will there be too much flow for the car to keep an idle. now i do know that it will be a lumpy idle but what i dont want is for the car to die at idle lumpy is fine.

If everything is properly setup, it will idle just fine.

Also, as stated before, the balance shafts are for comfort more than performance. Take them out, a lot of times it can save a motor by removing them due to not having the chance of a belt breaking and getting tangled in the timing belt causing that to break.

Who is building your engine?

well for the most part i am going to be the one doing the building. but with things like the head work i am going to take to a shop and let them do that. but im ordering all my parts and having them install. plus i have a friend that is pertty knowledgable in that dept.
but as of now i am still in the teardown stage. im working on getting the crank out and stripping the block so it and the head can get hot tanked and pressure checked. but any suggestions will be takin into consideration. and as always thanks for the advice.

Removing the balance shafts also means less rotating mass= quicker revving.... theoretically. Idk what your having the shop do to your block but you should have them check your main bores and cylinder bores and probably have your cylinders at least honed

yeah i was going to get the head hot tanked, pressure checked, valves 1mm over, and oil channels 1mm over too. and the block hot tanked and pressure checked cylinders honed. and make sure that there is not any warping where the head and block meet.

if anyone has any other suggestions let me know, im always looking for good advice.

With the build up you are doing, I would think about going a little bigger with cams. My buddy had 272/272's in his 2.4L and they didnt do much. He upgraded to some FP3x's and wow did they make a huge difference. 280/280's would be a good idea maybe too. Just my .02

:thumb: :dsm: hey thanks for the input about the cam size. I think that i finnaly have a set direction for this build. im looking at building it for time attack.
also yes i will be getting the head and block both resurfaced and all that stuff. also think i am going to get the block bored at least .20 over.
