So I try to install my evo fuel pump and what do i notice...the thing is rusted beyond belief. Even the feed fitting is badly rusted. So now im in a delema where i need a new tank, feed and return line setup. Does anyone know if i can use a fwd gas tank? or does it have to be an awd tank? and does it have to be 1990 spec since it differs from 1991-1994?

Wait, why do you need a new one? Did you bash that one to hell trying to get it off? Try spraying some PB Blaster all over the fittings and let it sit overnight.

I didnt bash it at all...the amount of rust pentrated through the parts is just horrendous. I got a screw driver and just tapped on the bolts lightly and the bolt began falling apart no longer having the 6 points, the threads of the bolt were no longer there, the fitting is no longer a 14mm and the 19mm end is rounded aswell. Ill get pictures of it

Same difference in the 1g. Because of the clearance needed for the rear differential, the AWD tank is different from the FWD. The 2 aren't interchangeable.

Mine was just as bad as that... I end up doing custom lines and made a different mount to attach the fuel pump to the tank... You have to love old rusted car parts! Get creative and you won't need a new tank.

You are also going to want to be very carefull when you use the line wrenches on the sending unit fittings. When I replaced my fuel pump I broke the metal line coming out of the sending unit, not good. Plus if you want to get a new one it is pretty expensive. Just a little heads up before you go busting things up in there.

I'm not sure what you're talking about when u say sending unit fittings...do you mean the 14mm nut in the picture? because I do use the flare wrenches. and about getting a "new" gas tank I meant a used one thats in better condition than the current one :)

Yes I was talking about the fuel line fitting. Just make sure you are careful loosening because if your not it will most likely break off the sending unit. And the sending unit is not cheap and is hard to find.
