I searched already and for that all he had to do is tighten the bolt down. my 5th gear pops out seconds after I put in. I tightend the bolt down on the gears because thats what I thought was wrong but it still pops out of 5th. maybe shifting better even to 5th but it just pops out. if I hold it at 5th it sounds like somethings wrong. what can the problem be?

it could be your 5th gear syncro. do u have an aftermarket short shifter? does it kinda grind when you try to hold it in 5th? I have a similar problem with my second gear it pops out and grinds if you try to force it to stay and its a syncro i have to replace

also when I tightened the bolt down and the i tried to tight the other bolt down it would just turn. there was no resistence. what would that mean?
****edit***
im a moron and forgot to put in reverse when trying to tighten.

is 5th gear synchro easy to replace? it kinda grinds. like i guess it would barely be a grind.

Was the transmition remove recently? If it was you may need to adjust the shifter cables.

Fifth and reverse are the two easiest out of all. But if you are going to go threw taking out your trans and taking it appart I would just rebuild the whole thing. This way you wont have problems in the future with other gears.<a href="http://photobucket.com" target="_blank"><img src="http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s189/racemygsx/rsz_111_0633.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting"></a>

if i were to change 5th? would i need to take the tranny out? it seems like i could just take that cover off and unscrew them.

The gears look fine. You want to check and see if there is any space between the syncro and the 5th gear syncro assembly if there isn't your syncro is probably worn out. It's not going to be a lot of space, but it should not be directly resting on the gear.

turns out that my 5th gear hub was stripped from the input shaft. i guess my bro was riding 5th like a mofo. but i still dont get how reverse would stay engaged
