Rebuilding a fwd 4g63t

Does anyone know about how much it would cost to rebuild a 4g63t motor. Also how many miles are these motors good for without blowing or having to be rebuilt with just regular driving and with some hard driving. thanks

o man, how much? depands on what you want. How many miles it last? I'v seen some motors blow around 150k. My car is at 217k

well im looking into buying a 95 gst with a little more then 150k. the motor isnt blow and its not modded. i was thinking maybe to be safe i would rebuild it so it would be more reliable and i dont have to be really scared to push the car hard sometimes.

Like he said if it aint broke dont fix it. But if you are already considering a rebuild you might as well do it and upgrade some things while you are in there.

Um, its 'something' .
I'v never had a problem with it, sure it leaks oil like a mofo (1-2qts per week). Other than that, she runs strong. I'll be purchasing a 2.0 long block from kar king auto around april/march anyways.
My advise is to do a compression check on your motor to see how she is running and go from there.

ok so if my compression is like 125-165 across all 4 then my engine should be pretty good to go with no problems?

Well, do it first. Than we can talk.
If the numbers are low, add a teaspoon of oil in the cly 'wet test' And if the numbers go up, mainly your piston rings are fry.

You replace them, bud.
You should do some searching, set up a goal. What do you want to do with your car? All out drag car? autocross, weekend warrior? What kind of numbers do you want to put down? After that, things get to get a little easier.

well this is guoing to be my first car. i just want a slightly modded DD. frontmount maybe swap to a 14b turbo for now, turboback apexi N1, fuelpump just like small mods for now i dont want it to be too fast for me you know what im saying thats another reason why i dont want a gsx cause there too fast the way they pull so hard when you take off.

yea thats ture but i have to find a gsx around me for cheap because i dont have to much to spend
