So, i was on my way to the unimart this morning, and felt a jerk.. it wasnt making any noices, and i was close so i continued on. when i pulled in i popped the hood. My oil dip stick had came up., and it was an oilly mess in there. so i checked the oil level, and cleaned up the oil as best i could. after comming out of the uni, i turned my car on, to hear something floppin around. So i called AAA and had it flatbedded. When it got the the garage, the mechanic said, start it up, ill know soon as i hear it, wots wrong..

so anways, he said it was a rod     :( not kool... so the engine internals are stock, and i planned on getting new rods n pistons anyways.. i guess the question would be what am i gonna need to get my car running again. should i just buy the rods for now, or am i better off buying a stroker kit, and wot kind of recommendations do you guys have. Im not really looking to go all out, the cash flow unfortunatly doesnt allow that :/ Also, im guessing the work its gonna take to replace them it gonna be a retarded amount :/
thanks for your time.

If you're going to do a stroker, now's the time. If it's making that much noise, chances are that you've damaged the crank and would need to replace it.

If you need it running by yesterday, find a shortblock, move the head & accessories over, or find another longblock and drop it in.

People always come up, with the easiest heh?

Dude, listen to some serious advice, don´t be fooled by other people without knowing your options.

Yes, a new crank would be great, but get ready to spend some real money.
Yes, a stroker kit, would be great, but get ready to spend as well.

Damaging a crank, is something serious. if you completly wasted the crank, obviously you need to buy another one, but more likely the chances, are that you just need to cut it and have it rebalanced, for then using .10 or .20 bearings. I´ve seen so many engines, run serious HP numbers, with cutted crankshafts, and they perform the same way. Make the mechanic open the engine, and ask for options. Check the block, and if its still usable, then go for it. I don´t know how much money you have to spend, but im just giving you another option, that must people don´t think about. You might not have a serious amount of money, but this may make your day. It´s just like snapping a timing belt, people would tell you, to buy a new head WTF. When you just need to replace some things on it, not the whole piece. Good luck anyways. :thumb:

People didn't say that he should goto a stroker just, because the guy mentioned it and they said if that was your plan anyway now is the best time to go through with it. To save you the most money in the long run. Obviously if you don't plan on doing a stroker later on this isn't the most cost effective way of fixing your engine. One more thing you've seen "cutted" cranks WTF ? I think past tense would still be cut.

Ok, say i dont wanna stroke it... is there a place that offers any kind of packages on a crank, rods, and pistons for a 4g63 motor? or should i just save and buy a whole new motor built for racing? im just looking for some suggestions... i miss my tsi ;(

I've never seen a packaged deal like that for a replacement crank rod & pistons. Assembled shortblock engines are available, but those can get pretty prices, especially if you want anything beyond stock. Slowboy Racing and Buschur are the two names that come to mind for assembled shortblocks.

Have you checked your local DSM boards for anybody parting out their cars? It could save you time and money to get a replacement engine in there just to get the car running while you rebuild your old engine.
