Anyone ever buy this engine or one from this guy?

Hey, just been looking for rebuilt engine options. This guy claims to have fixed the problem with the 7 bolt crankshaft? Does that make sense? Why would the 7 bolt be like 1300 more than a 6 bolt? I want to stay 7 bolt so i don't need to switch my flywheel and everything else needed to do the swap. I also don't have time to do it myself so a place would charge more for a 6 bolt swap than a 7 bolt swap in a 2g. Anyone have any info on this? I am looking sp spend as little as possible and get a really reliable engine. I am only going to be running an evo316g turbo so not a ton of power. And like I said I DON'T HAVE TIME TO DO THE WORK MYSELF! I would really like to spend no more than like 3 grand total for the rebuilt engine and having it swapped in. Obviously would like to pay less but trying to be realistic here.

Or also this jdm one? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/JDM-...280083299981QQihZ018QQitemZ280083299981QQrdZ1

Does anyone know of any cheaper places in ny tri state area that would do a good complete rebuild if these don't turn out to be any good? I want like prety much all parts replaced that could go bad with having like 147k miles on my engine.

yeah i know Darius , i got his engine. after i blew mine up. hmmmm. 3grand total? you might consider getting stock one then. What performance are you looking for? Its gonna take a while , with build and shipping . Just call him and tell him what you want, hes a cool guy. If you have any questions Private message me. Thanks

So does that fixing the crank walk problem thing seem to be legit? I was hoping to get an engine with a basic rebuild with just a few performance mods like pistons and replace all old parts and then install that, only going to be running an evo316g turbo, so wont need to be anything crazy. Strictly a street daily driver car, no track time for this one. So maybe like 4 grand total? That should be enough for like a stage 1 rebuild and then a swap at a shop i would think, plus like the turbo and fuel mods.

Interesting idea, but looks a bit like a band aid instead of actually fixing the problem.

There's no question that the issue with the thrust is that it doesn't get enough oil.

Increasing surface area undoubtedly decreases load per square inch which should decrease the chances that the two surfaces touch, but it still doesn't solve the origional problem...oil starvation.

For a similar price there's a guy in Colorado Springs who can take care of you (Jack... www.jackstransmissions.com). He makes multiple modifications to the block/crank/bearings which eliminate oil starvation from the thrust...at least enough for him to guarantee that it won't walk or he will replace it.

Then again, this guy is also giving a guarantee. As long as he backs it (Jack is known for having the best customer service around), then why not. I like what Jack does better because I believe he understands the root of crankwalk, and what causes it on these motors.

I've been planning to get this engine for a while. As soon as I get the coin for it I'll pick it up. I'm been talking to the overbore guys for months via email and they sound like they know what they are doing, so I'm going to give it a shot. Once I get it and install it I'll post my reactions so everyone can know whether it's a good deal or not. -Tom:thumb:

they know what they are doing trust me . Call him and he will explain you personally , he has nothing to hide.

Do you know the reason why the 7 bolt engine is like 1400 more than the 6 bolt? I would definately get one but for that much difference in price i don't know if i can. Would be cheaper to just get everything else and do a 6 bolt swap!

6 bolt swap its not just the flywheel and other stuff. Electrical too , mounting , my friend i dont want to start , some may say its easy i will say not. In my opinion you will waste more time and money. My advice , read up on 6bolt swap thread.

Yes true but the $1400 difference is more than enough to compensate for those differences! I have found other 7 bolt motors for a lot less than $2800 also plus the core charge of $350 and then freight. Comes to probably like 3500 or more. These engines look pretty nice and if i can find out why they are that much more than the 6 bolt ones i might go about getting one of them.

I agree Jack's got a really good handle on how to build a strong motor. He seems to know a good deal about the oiling system of the 4g63. He's spent the time to research all the potential causes, and he identified and solved them in a package that really seems to work well.

I was talking to him the other day about doing some custom transmission upgrades for my galant vr-4 project, and I asked him about the possibility of getting some of the intercooler piping fabbed up at the same time. (His intercooler fab work is really nice.)

He had some really good ideas for tranny upgrades. and some good imput on a vr-4 specific intercooler layout and set-up.

Unfortunately, he basically told me he was going to focus on the tranny end of his business a lot more, and wasn't going to have any time to play with any of the fun stuff like motors or custom fab work for awhile.

It looks like a bunch of people have found his website and his tranny services to their liking and he's got enough tranny work to keep him knee deep in double synchro's for awhile.

So, in other words, :)tease: Dan) please don't send Jack any more business, as he doesn't have time to play cars anymore. ;)

I have personnaly talked to the owner his name is Mark he owns overbore.com and another speed shot in canada. The guy knows what he's doing and I would by from him in a heart beat if I had the green.

Call or email him he will answer any questions you have!

Yes the crankwalk mod is legit, ask him and he will tell you why?

My motor was also built by Mark at overbore.com about a year ago he does do good work but my experience with him defiantly wasn't the greatest. First off when i talked to him he said it would be 3-5weeks plus up to 3weeks for shipping i was fine with that. 6months later and about 20 phone calls about it it finally arrives. also i never got my core charge back from him and now when i call he puts me on hold and never comes back. As for his work its pretty fine i must admit has handled the 400+ horsepower i throw at it daily and only problem so far is one pulley bent on me. Although i am in canada thats probably why he screwed me around so much, you being in the same state as him so you probably wouldn't run into these problems...

Ok I think for the price of buying this 7 bolt I could just get a 6 bolt from him and the difference I would save I'm sure could cover the extra parts I would need for the swap.
With these engine he gives the option with buy it now for several extra parts or machine work. From the list on this website http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=006&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=160089791912&rd=1&rd=1

which one would be best to get? I will be buying my own cams so that option can be thrown out.
Is there anything else i would want to or should get done while i am getting an engine built ? This is only going to be a daily driver, so long term reliability is the number 1 thing i need as well as power. I'm only looking for like a max of 300 at the wheels. Don't know if i would be there safely with that engine and anevo3 16g turbo and the necessary support, if not that is fine with me, I just really want it to last a long time with very minimal problems. I am planning on having everything new or rebuilt in my car, clutch, flywheel, this engine, new turbo, all fuel setup, exhaust, tranny, suspension. If everything is rebuilt well and installed properly this should be a good reliable setup? Are there still regular problems that would come with running a set up like this? I think i would plan to run around 20 psi, as that is where the 16g seems to be best around, and that should also prevent boost creep since i would be running that psi correct?
