I am looking at the General Exclaim UHP Vs. Kumho Ecsta SPT. I am planning on getting 215/55-16. Both rank very well over at tire rack and are the same price. Has anyone here been able to try one or both? If so, how is dry/wet grip and treadware? Not concerned about noise or ride.

Thanks.

I had to make the same decision a few weeks ago. After tons of research, I went with UHPs. (8 x 215/45/17)

Though the SPTs perform slightly better then the UHPs, the UHPs last a good few miles longer. Mine came with a 45000 mile warranty. Overall the UHPs were about $40 cheaper as well. (around 10 cheaper per tire)

I have 2 full sets of UHPs and I am extremely happy. I put them on my girlfriends car as well, and she LOVES them. (Of course, the previously had Kumho 711s)

the UHPs don't make any obnoxious noise either.

I vote UHPs for value!

(Note: I have never owned the SPTs, just read about them, I think you'll be happy either way, but being FWD the SLIGHTLY better grip the SPTs offer maybe the choice for you, albeit, less life in the tire)

I had my heart set on a set of UHP's because they ahve exceptional dry traction as well as being a GREAT all around tire. I havn't looked at the SPT but i'm assuming its all summer.
The UHP is rated as a snow and mud tire.
I vote UHP, lemme know what you decide.

I'm also at the exact same dilemma having to replace my worn out Yokos in a few weeks. I'm going to go with General since they last longer and are cheaper. All the other specs are similar. Although they are rated M+S I heard they are not great in those conditions. General has been around for almost a century and they are currently owned by German tire maker Continental.
