Has anyone run 225/50-16 on stock 2nd gen alloys?

Yep, it's been done lots of times. It's not really recommended, as you are really asking the bead to conform in a way it's not designed to, really, not to mention it won't handle very well. The tire will physically fit, however.

I have 225/50r16 on 16x7" wheels and even that's a little narrow for me. I'd rather have 16x7.5 or 16x8.

Yeah, like ThingyNess said. I wouldnt try to run those tires on the factory rims. I have a set of 16x8 I had from another car that fit on the TSi quite nicely that I am going to be using as my racing set for right now. I also run 225/50/16 on there and they fit great. If you want the 16" wheels, just try looking around at the different on-line stores. I'm sure you kind find a set within your budget.:thumb:

Ya i was worried about 225 width. OIn their now is 215 and they fit decent so i think ill just have to go with 215/55-16. Thanks for the advice guys.

I ran kumho 711 225/50r16's for 3 years with no problems on my 2G GS.

Were you doing any kind of serious autocrossing or on track racing with those tires on the factory wheels? Just curious is all. I know the beed would be in a weird position that it was not designed to be in on that wheel.

But if you or mhuffman is not doing that sort of thing, then I dont see there be too much of a problem. Especially if you got 3 years off of them.

I ended up getting 225/50-16 Kumho Ecsta SPT's for my oem 2g alloys. They get full contact patch, the sidewall has only slight curvature, the handling and traction is good. This is a lightweight and inexpensive wheel/tire combo that i recommend for those who don't want to buy aftermarket 16's.

I'm running 22/45/16 on stock 5 spokes with no complaints at all. tein springs new 225/45/16,s and a camber this weekend. hopefully all with positive results

If someone still have this doubt, I put 225/50 on the stock rims and had no problems at all. By the way, I still have a pair of Goodyear RSA 205/55 that came factory stock in the car (DOT 97). Comparing the new 225/50 with the old 205/55, weirdly their widht are the same. So definetely, there'll be no problem running on stock height.
