when putting in a metal headgasket, should I get both the block and the head resurfaced ? Will the machine shop be able to tell me if I need that done ?

You should always get the head resurfaced, as long as there was no significant overheating on the engine, the block SHOULD be ok, but go ahead and get a feeler gauge and a straight edge and make sure and if its good, then just go ahead and clean it really really well, i accually wet sanded my block lightly with 320 grit before installing my cometic and almost 10k miles later and heavy abuse it is holding great, and just a reminder you dont want to use any kind of gasket sealer on a mls gasket. hope this helps.

When I did my MLS I made sure I had it resurfaced. My brother did not have his head resurfaced, tried to get the MLS to seal with just cleaning and smoothing it himself and he had problems. I just cleaned my block really well. Make sure you get the block tested if you can.

why is it bad to use any kind of sealer on mls headgaskets?? could this be the reason why both my cometic hg and titan sce hg failed after about 2 weeks, cause the mechanic used sealer on them???
