Alright this has probably been diagnosed in another thread but here we go.....

I just bought a 1990 Talon from my buddy after I recked my 1994 Eclipse, it seems to be a good running car, but the transmission just isn't up to par.

1. When it is cold in the morning (I live in South Dakota) the transmission doesn't like to go into any gear what so ever while the engine is running.
2. Up shifting and down shifting into 3rd and 4th and up shifting into 5th the tranny will either grind or chunk into gear. This doesn't happen all the time, but a better part of the time it likes to.

Just wondering if it has to be the synchros or the pressure plate that is out and needs to be replaced. I have an ACT clutch, not sure if it is 2100 or 2600, but it is one of the two. If its already been answered just give me a link to another thread that answers it.

Tranny's don't like cold weather too much. If after the car is to optimal operating temperature you still have problems with third and forth gears, you may have a damaged shift fork and or the syncro's are going/gone bad. Another thought would be to check the shifter cables, on my car the cables wore out a little and it was hard to shift/grinding... I didn't find this out until I fully rebuilt my tranny that the cables from the shifter to the tranny were also garbage.
 
Yeah, c4uldron is right try checking your shifter cables first, if that does not work you could probably have a bent clutch fork.
I had kind of the same problem right after i put my engine and tranny in the car ,and i had problems going in gear "sometimes" and it would grind , untill the clutch snaped.
Then after fixing that problem, i was playing with shifter cables, and just because theywere off for a little bit the tranny was grinning.

Check for those things first, jack up the car and make sure that there is enough clearance between the clutch fork and the tranny case.
This are the cheapest easiest ways to narrow down the problem.

Hey guys I am STILL having problems with my car. I did the shift linkage adjustment and noticed something when i drive. The biggest thing that I can figure out is that the clutch is not fully disengaging. Trying to put the transmission into any gear it grinds like no other. I noticed the biggest thing being when I am stopped and put into gear (1st or Reverse), as soon as I let off the brake the car begins to move. I am not sure if it is the transmission or just the clutch not disengaging fully. Anyway to adjust that, so it fully disengages?
 
I decided before I take that on to replace my clutch fluid. It was really dirty and seemed to do the trick for the most part. After that I don't have a problem with the car wanting to move forward or backward when in first or reverse, so I am happy for now. we'll see if I need be have to do anymore. Thanks again for all the help guys.
