I just finished the 6bolt I was building in my 91 tsi awd... It starts fine, but wont idle... if I give it gas, it wants to stay alive, but it like misses and then dies out.... I can keep it at a steady idle for about 2 seconds if it is held at 3k.... but if let it try to idle on its own, it just dies.... I got no boost leaks and everything is connected and grounded....

Plug wires correct , on plug /coil ? Unplug maf , any change ? What psi did it hold during boost leak test ?

what kind of vacuum leak would do that? Seriously... this is my first DSM and I dont know if I got all the vac lines on right.... any suggestions would be helpful.... would my CAS being 180* out make this happen? I think its either that or my exhaust cam is off a tooth.... but the vac lines are something I should check as well...

Check all of the vaccume lines. Although if it were just a small vaccume line then I don't think it would prevent the car from running. Only hose that would do that is the brake booster hose so ceck and make sure that that's not leaking. Double check your cam timing too. Did you have the intake mani off of the motor? Make sure that the intake gasket is still in the right place and didn't slip out of there. But I still don't think that would be enough to cause your described idle problem. If it's a vaccume leak it would have to be a huge one and you'd be able to hear it right away.

I've never had to mess with a CAS being out 180*. I would think that it just wouldn't run at all but since it is a waste spark system it might. It's not hard to take it out and flip it around if that's what you're thinking. And if it don't fix the problem or don't start after you do it you know it was right. From what you're saying though it really sounds like either a huge vaccume leak or cam timing is off. Just my 0.02 though.

would the cam timing being off cause the symptoms I described? Starts, but wont idle without help from the throttle... and it dies if I dont use the throttle.... it will stay running above 3kbut not good....
