I have a fwd 2g that needs a new tranny....but all I have are 2 fwd trannys off of 1st gens. will I be able to swap them and not have any problems with fitting?

What fabrications am I going to have to make to make this work if not?

are you completely sure? cause i done alot of searching an only found the thing about the mounts but what if i just use the mount on the top and leave the other one off

As far as I know it's not possible for those reasons state above. Also I just sent in a transmission I got off craigslist and sent it to TRE for a Stage II rebuild but it ended up being a 1g NT transmission. Jon himself told me the 1g tranny wouldn't work for those reasons and also because the axles wouldn't fit properly either.

In the end I got lucky with a case on site so the transmission is on its' way back as I type this. I'd be willing to sell you the one I have on right now but it would only be useful to you if you were getting a rebuild done to it since the 2nd gear synchro is messed up and it's impossible to shift smoothly into 2nd.

i did it....all i had to do was leave off the other mount and switch the axel cups from my 1g axels to the 2g axels

Simply put, it CANNOT be done without modding where the front and rear rollstops mount. As stated, the 1g has the front and rear on the block, 2g on the tranny, which comes to quite a few inches difference. To leave them off would be unimaginable, as the whole motor will roll forward without something to keep it from doing so (rollstops). Something I would love to see, but not in My car. :p
As for a 2g in a 1g, it can be done, just remove the rollstop braces from the 2g tranny, and use the ones on the block of the 1g motor.
